No kidding, I used to get a model kit, glue and paint for 5 bucks.
You must be a whole lot younger than me. I paid ten cents for "airplane glue", 25 cents for a small jar of Testers paint, and 50 cents for a plastic model (car or airplane - I bought both). I was a paperboy from ten years old to eighteen and always had money in my pocket, no allowance from Dad for me, I worked for my money......LOL
I just viewed a Youtube on the detailed assembly, it does look a little challenging if you want to paint it and detail it like a factory car as it is not very big and it is highly detailed.
If I was going to attempt this to match My car, it would be a very extensive project and would take a great deal of time.
They did a great job, there are many highly detailed parts and I'm sure master model builders will do a great job on assembly.
I can say My skill level is good enough to do an average job if was going to attempt, I'm looking forward to seeing some completed projects.

I'm older too. I don't know what the glue cost then. Guess I shouldn't have sniffed it.
For $30 I bought the Maisto metal model of the C8. I disassembled it, stripped the riptide blue paint and repainted it Torch Red to match my car. Reassembled it and put it in my display case with copies of my other 2vettes. Not totally happy with the paint finish so I bought an airbrush and I’m going to give it another go. It’s -7° outside today so why not 🤣.
Bizarre to see someone complaining about 50 dollars for a model kit.
That's the starting point for a lot of quality stuff out there. Considering a kit can get 10-15 hours of hobby time out of it seems like a bargain to me.
My biggest gripe about C8 models be they diecast or plastic is the lack of HTC versions. With almost 50% of production being convertibles you'd think some company would step up and start offering them. I collect 1:18 scale cars/trucks but no luck with the C8.
