I have a 2023 c8 ,I had the trasmision filter changed and the tech broke the bolt off when taking the cover off . Now they have to change the tranmission fluid filter housing part Number 24048638 has anyone run into this problem and how difficult is to change that part Thanks for any information
It's lucky it was them and not you. I wouldn't worry about it, they will fix it. Hopefully the parts are in stock and they won't have your car for 6 months.
Someone on the forum broke that bolt when changing the filter and was considering replacing the housing but they managed to get the broken part of the bolt out.
Frustrating for sure! It's only 53 inch pounds on those bolts. Not sure how you can break one unless over torqueing. This is why I hate anyone touching my cars. I'll let them do the 7500 mile one but that's it. Hopefully it's a quick fix.
At least it was the dealer that broke the part and the repair is on them. Hope the fix goes fast and you can get back to enjoying the car.
Yes, they could have kept quiet about it and let the next person that does the service find out. It will be interesting if some people start reporting this.
Such I shame. I’m actually surprised they said something though.
But this is the reason even my free fluid changes are done on MY back,I’m done with dealer clowns whenever possible.
They didn't clean out the threads in the housing with the correct thread chaser. The factory bolts and the replacement bolts have thread locker on them. It's surprising how many techs and owners forget this step when replacing the transmission filter.

I never read about cleaning\chasing the threads. Is it documented? What size tap?

Need to be careful here I think. There are taps and cleaning (chasing) taps. Don't want to risk messing up the threads by trying to solve an issue. A safe way is to clean the old bolts of thread locker and run them in and out by hand a few times to clean as best as possible any leftover thread locker. Will get you an accurate torque. I had no issue when I did mine. 4 ft-lbs is a very low torque so to snap one means to me they way over torqued the bolt.

I was very concerned about mine being over torqued when I bought mine in for its 7500 mile service earlier this month that I was going to leave a sticky on the steering wheel reminding the tech to use a torque wrench setting it to 53 inch pounds. Ended up not doing that but still worried about it.
I read a couple of post on the forum that said they had the same thing happen and it wasn’t that hard to replace the filter housing. Hang in there!
OP says bolt broke while being REMOVED. Hardly a case of lack of knowledge or over torquing on the tech’s part. The dealership will fix the issue at no additional cost to the OP.
When working on YOUR back because you have no trust in a trained tech (we used to call them mechanics) if such an issue occurs the additional expense is on your dime.
Perhaps I am blessed with a great service writer and Corvette tech and team at my dealership. They have been servicing and repairing my Corvettes for the past ten years. The next time I will be on my back under my car will be if the lift at the dealership collapses when my tech is showing me something while the car is in for service.
