i’m going to get the Novatec bra on my car at the NCM in three weeks and drive it about 300 miles home. I wish to put some track wrap on certain places, hood mirrors, boomerangs, etc.
The question I have is who applies this and how easy or difficult is it to do and is there anything I need to bring?
I’ve told you just sort of slap it on and it looks ugly and I don’t think there’s anybody at the NCM that helps you do it and honestly it’s a Friday afternoon and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get the shop that does PPF to do it on short notice.
Any suggestions or helpful comments would be appreciated!
I’m going to get PPF on part of the car in Atlanta when I get it back.
When I took mine, the shop had what they called a "track pack" it included the front and other specific areas which would be subject to damage. I am sure other places have this same option. I had mind done in Orlando so I have no idea who would do it in Atlanta. Maybe a Google search for Auto Spa.
You might be better off just putting painters tape on it. I had a white car I tracked and used blue painter tape, you just need to ignore the look!!!!. I also used xpel track wrap. Used a roll on product... called road armor too.... you roll it on with a paint roller! I'd not recommend that but just threw it out there. I also did saran wrap...... yea I've tried a lot over the years!!!
Painters tape is the easiest and leaves no residue. Do that and don't tailgate..........leave plenty of room.
I got a novi stretch bra too, drove cross country with it no issues. BUT you know if anything gets between the bra and the car there is a change of paint damage........ but that is rare.
I did this when I picked up my car at NCM, I would definitely do it again. But I wouldn't go so crazy with it like I did. Removal was a pain!
First off, get the Novistretch bra. It really works well, and I use my all the time. The museum will install it for you and everything. It is not like a regular bra, it will not cause damage from things getting "under" the bra. Its a soft mesh, works well for bug guts and small stones. I put track wrap under it and the bra held it on well. I also covered the hood (easy) and the fenders (less easy). Just make sure you overlap it properly and it will last well for the drive up. I only put painters tape on the mirrors and around the windshield. I do not think painters tape works well, it just doesn't stick well to a freshly waxed car, especially if it rains. But if you get black painters tape it doesn't look so junky.
If this sounds like too much work, honestly you are probably fine with just the Novistretch and painters tape on the mirrors. Maybe a little track wrap under the headlights where the Novistretch doesnt cover. Its pretty unlikely that a rock will hit the hood or even the windshield frame, and these cars are not too susceptible to chips anyway. Then just don't follow too close behind semis or trucks.
Good luck and have fun, the museum delivery is great!

I'm a big advocate of XPEL. So, my installer gave me some XPEL scraps and I covered my C8 where the wind flow contacts the car; one large sheet across the entire front including the bumper, head lights, grill area and carbon fiber trim (cut air holes in the XPEL to allow airflow thru grills), front fenders, roof front and wind shield side supports, mirrors, side intakes, rear fender area, and the high wing. Yes, it looked atrocious but got the job done. When I arrived at my installer in Orlando, I asked him if he could treak my wrap. I couldn't believe he removed my fine job and redid all my hard work and had the audacity to charge me thousands of dollars to boot. Oh well, you get what you pay for. I quit using bra's because of abrasions. Do your research on installers and check their reviews.

I just picked my C8 up at the museum and drove it 2500 miles home. I had Rudy over at install track wrap at his shop at the NCM track while I had lunch and toured the museum. It did a great job of protecting my car on the trip home. They have several track wrap options so you will want to call them. They were able to work with me on VERY short notice. Call Rudy....

Personally, for a 300 mile trip, I would do as many have suggested: Apply some wide painters tape on the forward facing body areas (including the area the Bra will cover). And, keep your distance from others on the freeway. The Bra is great for dust and bugs, but too thin to prevent damage from larger particles.
I picked mine up at the NCM last July and had a 1200 mi. trip ahead of me. I applied Track Armour (Amazon) and then the Novi Bra. I took several days to make my trip and arrived home with no damage; only a lot of dust/dirt/bugs on the Bra, that came off easily with a hand wash. The Track Armour left some adhesive lines when removed, but that came off easily with a little bug remover. BTW, I did get a quote from one of the local Detail/Protection shops near the NCM. As I recall, they quoted about $500 to do a Track Wrap, and would have needed to make arrangements with the NCM, in advance of the delivery, to have the car moved to their location the day before delivery to apply it and then moved back to the NCM. I passed on that option.
Picked up mine in March '23 at the NCM. I used Lumar track tape in the 6-inch roll to ape all the leading edges including the rockers and half the hood. I drove it home about 700 miles with no damage, Removal was a breeze, just pull it off. You will need a pair of scissors and nothing else. We stayed at Sync Hotel across from the assembly plant and used the garage to tape the car up before the trip home.

6667, I'm probably going to go this route. I will pass on the $500 track wrap application here, I cant see that for a 5 hour drive home. My XPEL PPF and Ceramic application at the Cumming GA GLASSLIFE dealer is about HALF the NCM dealer price! He used to do all the NCM cars and has a huge following we talked for a long time and he clearly knows his stuff (and corvettes)
As for the NCM trip, I will probably bring along a Track Armour wrap roll from amazon. hmmmm..... Im just now reading the reviews on Track Armour reviews on Amazon and lots of unhappy people talking about thick residue and and some clear coat damage though! Might try 3M .
Did you put yours on DRY ? I'm just wondering if I need to go through the whole soapy water and squeegee thing, only to peel it off five hours later.
I found this to be a good value. The 6" x 100' was enough with some to spare. But I started panicking when the roll got really thin towards the end so I started cutting pieces sparingly instead of generously but still covered every single gap in the front end, splitter, headlights, A-pillars, side mirrors, and side rockers. Took me maybe 40 minutes to apply in front of everyone at the dealer lot under the sun. Only drove it home then to the full body PPF installer for maybe 70 miles total.
Cheaper track wraps have complaints of peeling off at speed. This one has less complaints but still there are some. A lot has to do with how you apply it (firmly while minimizing bubbles) and how clean the surface is. Mine worked out fine. Maybe a couple slivers here and there peeled back but at spots where I got lazy rather than applying with more care.
I applied XPEL Tracwrap at the NCM (they let me park under the overhang in front. I started applying it myself and then another R8C buyer (with a next day delivery) came over and help me. All you need is a pair of scissors and the plastic tool that comes with it. Yes, it looks like crap but does the job. We took a 1500 mile road trip home and then took it to the local XPEL installer to have permanent XPEL installed. They removed the Tracwrap and cleaned up the car as part of their install.
Cleaned front of car with waterless car wash dried with microfiber cloth applied dry.Drove from Corvettes at Carlisle 4 1/2 hours arrived home peeled off easily no residue. Directions suggested not leaving tape on for extended periods of time and the rain. Good luck drive safe.
It was by far the best temporary solution I have ever found, I highly recommend it. The trick is to layer it to make removal easier. I would try to stay away from cutting small pieces, try to arrange it with overlapping seams so you can pull it all up in one large sheet. You can see in one of the pics where I had to add a little duct tape to hold it down.
no not at all. The dude who is doing the ppf should make sure the surface is prepared. Are you going to have him at least claybar the paint?
I think he was talking about using spray wax before applying track wrap, not PPF. You do not need to wet-apply track wrap, it goes on dry. If it was an older car, you would use spray wax to help reduce the chance of residue, but a C8 picked up from the museum will be freshly waxed and detailed, no concerns there. I used the plastic squeegee that came with the track tape, and got it reasonably smooth for the drive home. Take it off immediately though, trust me! The best bet is to bring it straight to the PPF shop after you get home.
