...I understand the stripes are installed by a third party. If that is correct, and if they do add a clear coat, would the clear coat be done back at the GM plant?
I doubt GM is going to be selective and exempt particular areas from clear coat being applied to accommodate stripes. I've had several cars with vinyl stripes where the clear coat was only applied on the paint.
... As you can see, the stripes on the roof & spoiler are hardly visible. I therefore prefer a seamless roof and spoiler.
Not to be inquisitive, I fail to grasp the logic of removing black stripes from black surfaces. You know they are there, not as if they are hardly visible, they are not visible at all. At least not on the photos and I assume not noticeable unless it is nearby. I had a black Mach 1 with black stripes and I thought it was the coolest thing because of it being stealth.
Your C8 looks great as it is. Had the roof matched the body color with black stripes then I would agree with the need to remove the stripes.

Up close, you see this. I prefer not to see the lines.
UPDATE:
Well I finally got the nerve to try to remove the black stripes off the black (Carbon Flash) roof and rear spoiler. I was ready to use a heat gun and adhesive remover.
After parking the car in the sun on a relatively warm day for maybe 10 minutes. To my surprise, I was able to very easily remove the stripes by first lifting a corner with my finger nail, then pulled it off with very little effort. No need for adhesive remover. Took 10-15 minutes.
Once stripes removed, I washed the car, clay barred and waxed the roof. Results, perfect and no fading! (One note, my C8 is 1-year, 7-months old, been garaged with only ~7,500 miles.)

Very nice! I can't understand why some believe the decals on these cars are hard to remove. It be different if the car had 200k miles on it and baked in the sun for the last 15 years, but something like this is a piece of cake.
I don't know where people are getting the idea that the vinyl stripping installed at the factory is clear coated............wrong! I watched them install the vinyl one day at the factory and it "ain't" professional. It is a trained factory worked, installing them!
