I did not get the engine appearance package. Has anyone used a battery LED type light for the engine department? I am looking for an easy solution rather than cutting into the wiring harness that feeds the rear defogger. Thanks for any suggestions.
I have the engine appearance package. I almost forget about the lights because I really don't notice them. I don't believe it is worth the expense and time to install the lights.
i installed the Wildhammer kit. It was not terribly expensive and took me most of an afternoon to install. I was looking for the factory look as opposed to stick on lights. Very happy with the results.
Has anyone tied into the rear trunk lights? Wondering if it is possible to extend a wire from one of these lights and install 12vdc lights or even the same lights. This way they would not require batteries and would work with the trunk lights going on and off when you lift the lid and time out just like the trunk lights. Not sure if possible and whether an additional 2 lights’ current draw might be a problem on that circuit.
My neighbor down the street did exactly that with his C8. He ran led strips down the sides of his engine compartment and tied them into the trunk lights. Seems to work just fine.
They have a base / battery cover that unscrews. I drilled a hole in that, then removed a couple of screws from the hatch cover, bought longer ones at ace hardware, and installed the lights that way. Totally reversible and it cost less than $20. It isn't factory, but it is good enough to check the oil at night, plus I can make them change colors.

That sounds like exactly what I am looking at. If you get a chance please ask him what he bought and how and which light he tapped into. Much appreciated
He just bought a roll of led tape from Amazon and wired the left side to the left trunk light and the same on the right. The led tape just sticks on to the edge of the engine compartment. He is currently making some polished aluminum strips to kind of dress up the whole thing.

The LEDs on the OE appearance package really aren't very bright and kinda of disappointing...I would go custom if I were to light the engine bay...
I bought a battery powered led light with remote from Amazon. It had multiple color options.
I used a double sided tape to mount it to the hood…. which lasted maybe 6 months before falling into the engine compartment
somewhere and never to be found. Next one I do will be fastened with a screw.
I have a 23 1LT and had been thinking about engine lights since I got it a year ago. All the aftermarket solutions that I could come up with didnt apeal to be due to batteries, manual operation etc,,,
I happened across this post the other day and ordered this kit. Got it delivered in 2 days with a coupon code i found for $194 Total. Installed in about an hour including looking for a few tools.
I do wish you could turn it on while driving.
They do have a plug and play module that allows you to turn it on with the defroster button. However the defroster also runs and it times out like the defroster does. Yes you could disconnect the defroster if you didn't want it to run but it would still time out. Just a not quite an elegant solution so I opted not to get it.
This absolutely behaves like factory because it is. Harness comes with all the factory wire attachments and fits perfect. Not the best picture but its just the right amount of light IMO.
