I was going to do MacMulkin but they want the deposit to even get on the waitlist which scared me off since I’m already on lists with no deposit.
There deposit is refundable until the day they submit the order to Chevy so other than having your money tied up it’s low risk. They have a good reputation so I wouldn’t worry about them playing games if that’s your concern.
The plus of going with them is they’re more likely to be able to get you options like z51 when they are limited availability, this is because of their volume and the way GM allocates to dealers.
But it’s easy for me to pick them as I live 30 minutes away, a long distance situation might have made me reconsider.

Yeah I’m 1,600 miles away! I guess the good thing is the car would be broken in 1/3 way through the trip lol.

I understand…. the deposit is refundable until gm actually accepts the order but it’s not an insignificant amount… I would not want the hassle of chasing a refund if someone else came through first but they do get the most allocations and their C8 volumes are crazy. If you’re trying to get a car that has constraints MM is probably your best bet but I’m sure it will come through soon regardless…
On one hand I am surprised gm still has constraints on any standard C8 equipment, and Z51 especially…. But on the other hand the car is crazy complicated and can be specced so many different ways… color combinations, seat belts, wings, carbon, gm definitely wants you spending your “mod money..” at the factory.
One of the issues with Z51 being an option is there are so many parts and any number of supply chain issues can put the entire package into constraint. Brakes, one of the radiators, the eLSD… and others.
Because it’s a popular configuration? Or do you know another reason?
I'm thinking maybe some folks don't consider it necessary. I had a c5 with magnetic selective ride control and the effect was very subtle if even at all noticeable on most road surfaces. Of course it was earlier technology. My C7 did not have it and I never missed it. The C7 was a beast compared to the C5 although both had their fine points. Had a couple of 911"s and neither had active suspension but one was a wide body 4S. All were convertibles. I don't track my C8 nor will I. I have had some driving school time and consider myself pretty good in the twisties but my C8 without Z51 is better than I am.
Please see here. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-non-z51.html I agree with the thread starter.
Z51 with MRC=$8240
My suggestion: Get some seat time with a C8. Test drive both Z51 and non Z51 with and without MRC. Find a dealer or maybe some local Corvette club members, or maybe some classified ads and drive them. Even if you have to fly in and out to get to a dealer, a $500 round trip ticket could save you $8240.

My last 15 sold orders 13 were for non Z51 and two were for Z51. Last month I got 5 allocations 3 Z51 2 non Z51 cars. I had one order for Z51 and 4 for non Z51. I had to talk 2 customers into taking Z51 and give them a discount to take it. Out of a 125+ new Corvette deliveries I have done it is about 30% ordered Z51 and 70% didn't
I’m sure the C8 is an amazing car without Z51… but just the fact that gm “requires” it if the car is going set tire on a track tells me I want the bigger brakes and especially the upgraded cooling system.
I started driving German cars years ago because gm cars (that I was raised on) kept eating brakes and clutches and breaking…. My mind set is gm’s best C8 is equivalent to an average Cayman or 911…but that’s just me…

I've owned five Porsches including a 944 TurboS and two 911's one of which was a C4S not to mention many Benzs, Audis, and BMW's and I totally disagree. But I respect your opinion. IMHO my non Z51 C8 performs better on the street than any of the Porsches I've owned and is a considerably better value. If I were tracking, and I don't, I would get a Z51. Those that spend $8K for Z51 just to have it and never track it................I dunno.

Non-z51 cars have the steering response and suspension float of a Cadillac but sure save $6-8ish k if you prefer that…win-win!

I assume that was a pure play to lower cost and no other reason? Speaking to 70% not getting z51.
Must:
HTC
2LT
Z51 w/ Magride
Hypersonic Gray (Red Interior) or Riptide Blue(Gray or Natural Interior, red would be third but GM up-charges for red on the riptide)
Preferred:
Black Exhaust tips
20 spoke black wheels
black mirrors and spoiler
red calipers
MacMulkin got me the rims you want when there were only 176 sets nationwide.
My car was built on 2/21but not shipped nothing MM can do about that.

I have no reason(will never track) or want(summer only tires) to have the Z51. I know, I know you can change the tires, but why spend $7k extra then have to drop more on tires.

To me it’s worth it as I think this car needs a spoiler, and I want the performance exhaust. The other options for spoiler are not my taste and I do think, besides the Z06 spoiler, the Z51 is the best looking. So if I was going to buy a z06 spoiler or knock off I’m looking at 3,000+ labor. The Performance Exhaust is another 1,200 so the is 2,500 more worth all the additional benefits if the Z51 even if I don’t track, to me it is.
I could do without mag ride but if I’m building it and not buying off the lot, I’ll be adding it.

Great!. Sounds like you made a decision. My goal was to help you get to it. Hope your wait list issues go smoothly. Keep us posted on your progress and when it finally arrives, please post pics. Good Luck.!
