Default BP or Marathon

I'm planning a road trip to the East Coast. They don't sell Chevron, so I'm looking for the best gas to buy along the route. For example in Wyoming (Cheyenne specifically) the choice is Sinclair. Ok That better than a no name brand. Most of the way after I can get Shell. My 2nd choice to Chevron. But my trip would take me thru West Virginia where my choice seems to be BP or Marathon. Which is better and.. .. Any other suggestions? Sunoco?

TIA

Brand likely makes no difference. I can tell you how it is in MN where i live. Crude oil comes into the state either by train/tank car from ND or pipeline from Canada. It all goes to refineries in sSt Paul. Refined products go out from St Paul to the gas stations...regardless of brand. It all comes from the same place. There may be slightly different additive packages, but essentially it's all the same.

I'd go with BP if Shells not a choice.

Get some Techron additive and add some to each fill-up away from Chevron. I also only use Chevron. If you have any Texaco on your route same gas as Chevron.

I usually buy Sunoco. If you find the right station you can also get 100 octane which one of my buddies runs in his 67

I look for 93 octane, top tier. 91 is acceptable. A few tanks full of gas that is not top tier will not be an issue. The Owner Manual, which recommends top tier, say if you cant find it, then add ACDelco Fuel System Treatment Plus−Gasoline to the vehicle’s gasoline fuel tank at every oil change or 15 000 km (9,000 mi), That's a lot of fill ups without top tier.

Or, if you are really concerned (I would not be) just add techron or ACDelco FuelSystem Treatment Plus−Gasoline to the vehicle’s gasoline fuel tank when you fill up.

Sheetz sells 93 in areas of the east/southeast where other stations don't.

BP has one of the best addictive packages on the market. Sinclair and Marathon are decent quality fuels, as well. Sunoco is ok if you can find one of their locations with 94.

I use Costco gas for my cars. It is rated top tier and I've never had a problem with it. I don't think the cars run better with Chevron or Shell.

If you stay with any Top-Tier station, then you should be fine.
Here is an extensive list of Top-Tier gas brands: https://www.toptiergas.com/gasoline-brands/
To easily prepare, you can use this internet link and search an area by zip code or City/State: https://stationfinder.toptiergas.com/
Brands that I see on the east coast include but are not limited to:
  • Citco
  • Conoco
  • Exxon
  • Marathon
  • Mobile
  • Rutters
  • Shell
  • Sunoco
  • Valero
You can always us the Gas Buddy phone app to find gas stations that match Top-Tier brands.

For Top Tier, check on the pump for the Top Tier label. I have two Marathon stations by me, 150 yards apart.
One has the label, one doesn’t.

The safe choice would be the well-known brands which have been in business for decades, regardless of price.

I’m on my fifth corvette in 20 years. I’ve always looked for 91 or 93 octane but occasionally burned a tank of 89 if that’s all I could find. I never paid any attention to brand and have had zero issues.

This. Any Top Tier premium will do. Nothing that special about Chevron over other top brands.

Most BP stations are francises owned by somene local. Depending on where you are, the gas they sell prboably doesn't come from BP either.

Any Top Tier. Phillips 66 and Conoco should be at every location on your journey. Same company. If you’re on the west coast 76. Same same.

What I've done is plotted both my overnight stays and the points half way between, then am using Google Maps to identify the gas stations at both those points. Of course I plan to use the highest octane I can buy, but I'm unfamiliar with some of the brands in some of the towns. Thus the question about BP vs. Marathon vs Sunoco. .. These are stations I rarely if ever see (never ever have I seen Marathon gas for sale).

I would get Costco gas if it were available in those towns along the way. I'll check to see if there are any. Thanx for the idea.

The comment to take a few bottles of techron along is a great idea too. THANX.
