Side thought: could it be the runs colder when the AC is ON?
Most cars turn on the electric fans to cold the AC condenser, for example C7.
Not sure if the AC condenser fan also cools the C8 engine coolant.
Any thoughts on this theory?
I am not concerned anymore, just curious!
I wish I could sit with a bunch of C8 owners to chat. My club members lack the car chats and tends to more concerned about lunch and doctors appointments.
(average age is probably around 74! )
The fans in front draw air through both the condensers and the coolant radiators. AC operation does affect when those fans run.

Sure. Here are the conditions for turning on the fans in the front - and they are called the "engine cooling fans". The fans in the back are called "engine compartment cooling fans", but there is radiator back there too in Z51, and two radiators back there in for overseas hot climates.

"The ECM commands the fans ON under the following conditions:
The engine coolant temperature is warmer than a predetermined temperature.
The engine oil temperature is warmer than a predetermined temperature.
The A/C pressure reaches a predetermined pressure.
If the engine coolant temperature at key-off is warmer than a predetermined value, or the A/C pressure is greater than a predetermined
value, the cooling fan will operate at a low speed. The fan will shut OFF if the temperature or pressure drops below the predetermined
value, but will only operate for 2 minutes, regardless of the coolant temperature or A/C pressure."

As for the conditions that control the rear fans, the Service Manual says this:
"The ECM uses the under-hood air temperature sensor to determine the desired engine compartment fan speed....". I sometimes wonder if there are additional things that turn it on, it does not say anything about that.
