Has anyone gotten this message while driving? It was hella scary and I though the C8 was going to turn off. The car went back to normal the next time I got in and started driving. I also had the black screen this morning for a few minutes. I did the firmware update earlier this week.
Happened to me a couple of times last week, I assumed the fob battery needed to be replaced (still had factory battery, over 3 yrs old). Has not happened again.
Hopefully that was the solution. Now I keep a spare fob battery around just in case. Good luck
My wife was in her girlfriends Porche a few days ago. Left the girlfriends house after her husband started the car for her ( don't know why) and off they went. Just outside Sacramento Ca, they stopped for gas. After filling the tank the car wouldn't start. On screen said NO KEY PRESENT!!! The friends husband had it in his pocket at the house. So, on her car at least, you can drive the car away without the key fob. They sat until he brought the key to them. I'm not sure if the C8 would do the same.

The C7 was the same and my guess is the C8 also will keep running without the fob. You wouldn't want the car stopping if it lost communication with the fob.
Sometime also, external interference will cause that, as it did with my Ford F-150 when I was millions of miles from home. In the Ford, when that happens, you can drop the fob in the cupholder, or worst case, remove the cupholder liner hand drop the key in that hole. That should also work with a low battery.
The C8 doesn't just continue driving with no fob, it will let you start it ONE time if you drive off without a fob. I guess to prevent the gas station situation described above.
