Default DCT Filter replacement

Has anyone had their DCT filter replaced (regardless of how many miles) and requested that the dealer return the old one? Not sure how feasible it is, but the thought would be to visually assess if the filter appeared clean or dirty, or view the trans fluid color along with any contaminants or particles that may be preset. I realize this sounds more likely with an oil filter replacement, but I was considering asked the dealer for the old one in return out of curiosity. Especially considering the cost of getting it done. I think It's a small enough request anyway.

It varies by state, but if you request that the filter be returned to you at the time the service order is written, then local law may require the repair center to oblige.

If it's not the free "warranty" replacement, they dealer should have no issue with returning it to you. One less thing for them to dispose of safely.

Only if you pay for the service...

I've watched Tech replace both, year 1 with ~3000 miles and year 3 with ~8000 miles. Outside of dak filters looked fine. Year 3 where all fluid was replaced was a light brown, now fluid clear.

Never thought to take it home. Tech would have been happy yo give to me versus all he did, which was to put in the container where all are deposited. Now IF I tracked might be interesting to do. I don't and felt zero need. Would have to cut the filter open. There are a few early posts with Pics where folks did just that.

Sorry responding to old post by mistake. I told my dealer I was curious about the filter and they were happy to give to me.

I don’t need to “have” it, I “need” to see it.

I just changed mine, and kept the old one and wrote the date/mileage on it using a paint pen. Still mulling over modifying the aluminum skid plate covering it….

Do the V access panel as you won't regret it.. Just ask Strakes and TWISG as they followed suit. If you need any info...
