Indeed, I can't find any gm info that says you need to be hooked to wifi(my car is not connected to my home wifi) nor can I find anything that the car will be completely unusable during the ota updates.

I don’t know what happened, but 2 weeks ago my car was saying the update was unavailable, When I hit the “check for updates”, yet my Chevy app was telling me that there was an update available, and the next thing I know after two days, I get in the car and get a message that the entire system has been updated. I did not check any install now or download now or anything, it just resolved itself and my system shows completely up-to-date. This is a 2024 1LT. I also have checked in the system the “download in the background” or whatever that switch is in my preferences.

I would love a SP GT40!!! You can have AC!!! And that’s the only option I really need…. Only issue is servicing and price 🤷‍♂️

I tell people all the time…. I have the worlds most expensive am/fm radio in my car…. Because it seems everything else requires signing into Google which I will not do…. Why do you have to sign into Google to use the Chevrolet Corvette features? Talk about gm handing your data over to another company on a silver platter…. But the worst part is the random adds and messages telling me to sign up for Sirus… or turn on Onstar location services…. Or call Onstar to select a plan… Or sign into Google to use Google assistant…. Thank god they don’t appear every day but who wants an add stuck in their face when they start their car…. It just annoys me…

Between the adds that I can’t turn off and the 4G LTE cellular connection that I don’t control on the most expensive car I ever purchased… 🙄. Do I really own the car? The title says I do…. The electronic features…. Not so much 😏

I must have one of the good ones built on a Friday. The only notice I've seen is the note saying some map features are not available without a connection. I've never seen any ads at all.

Do you have to sign in to use Corvette features or Google features?

You get ads on your 24? Now that’s a new low but it was bound to happen. Sam

Can anyone share the description for this new Update 2 of 3? Is it just as vague and useless and the 1 of 3 update?

I just got off of the phone with Mary Barra and asked her what this latest update is for? She told me the update allows the PDR camera to record everything you are eating with the hopes that you will eat healthier and not eat as much fast food and hence live longer with a healthier lifestyle. Oh but she did mention your eating habits were being reported to Lexus Nexus to sell to your health care provider to potentially lower your healthcare premium. Sam

Do you have to sign in to use Corvette features or Google features?
Some of the Infotainment “features” for example Navigation, require you have a Google account, and sign in, on top of paying a subscription fee…. I just find it beyond ironic that the car has so many “features” there are two pages of icons and you can swipe left or right to access these “features” but I don’t use any of them… except the radio. My infotainment screen never leaves the radio.

When I explored the infotainment screen icons when I first took delivery…. with the exception of Settings and the radio…. it seemed everything else I tried required signing into something, an Onstar subscription or both. It was just so much the opposite of all my other car buying experiences.

other than a few prompts at the beginning to connect to my contacts, etc. I have no problems with the infotainment system. Granted I would like it if it didn’t have Google/andriod anywhere near the system and have integrated NAV, but I have Sirius under a separate subscription for 6 bucks a month, and CarPlay if I want to use a navigation program. It plays my USB fine and I usually go to CarPlay and run Spotify on an extended drive. The system gives me everything I need as the way it is. makes calls fine the way it is.

I would be very upset though, if CarPlay went away, because right now, it’s the Linchpin/hub in the system for me

😁😁😁😁 I’m sure Lexus and Nexus are excited however LexisNexis are hopefully still not getting secret transmissions from Mary B. 😉😉😉😉

The last updated called out the 15 minutes needed. I popped up when I was leaving work. I would never thing about doing the update anywhere, but at home in case the car bricks and leaves you stranded. I think this is super rare. But it's not an inconvenience to wait until you get back home to start an update.

We are very different customers:
- I prefer not to have my contacts loaded in my car
- Don’t have Sirus
- Don’t use car play (I never connect my phone to my car. There is nothing that important that it can’t wait until I’m not driving… and I just don’t like talking on the phone when I’m driving)
- Don’t use Spotify
- Don’t have music on a USB

I just really like driving. The faster the better (to a point…). The more capable the car the better. The man and machine dynamics…. Being in control of this mechanical masterpiece….the feel of pushing the car through a corner…. My favorite “tech” is to use my phone for Navigation, enter my destination to establish an ETA…. then put the phone face down on the passenger seat and see how much I can beat it 😁

well, maybe when you’re my age you’ll look to the car a little differently. (74) I raced an M3 inSCCA for a couple years, I got all that go fast stuff out of my blood a while ago. I spent my entire carrer working for Porsche and Bmw on the corporate side, I’ve driven everything under the sun. now the Vette is long distance cruiser for me, since owning the car in January, I’ve been to Philadelphia from Fort Lauderdale, St. Louis from Fort Lauderdale and numerous trips across the state. On all those trips, there’s no “setting an ETA for my destination”, it’s more about listening to good tunes, that I’ve known through the years.

The mistake the OP made besides during an install while out and about he didn’t unlock the door BEFORE hitting “Install Now”. He may have thought he did but in reality the doors do not lock during the update.

And if I could drive fast 100% of the time I wouldn't want the distractions either. But the reality is that most of the time I'm not driving fast and I appreciate the driving aids and entertainment to make the drive more relaxing and enjoyable.

Lol....

Riptide, you should be driving a C5 or earlier....or just order that Superformance car you mentioned.

You never just take the car out for a simple cruise? 😳

That's the thing, the car should never ever brick on ya. No where in gm literature does it say"park the car and don't expect to use it for xx minutes( that I have have read yet). How would a new person to C8's know this. Never gave it a second thought on any of our cars before. If I wasn't aware of the manual door release I could have been in danger, this parking for updates is f'n dumb. Why would you accept this procedure?

The update warning tells you all the things you say it doesn’t!
