My question is for those who show their C8 Convertable. I have run into an issue every time I show mine. The judges say they have to see the engine or they will give me 0 points for it. Obviously getting that decreases the chance to place or win. I talked to a certified corvette tech and he told me I really don’t need to be removing the heat shield any more than necessary. How do you handle this?

I don't. Quite honestly, a C8 at a car show, unless highly modified, is now just another in a sea of great cars. I like "see the engine". What, a plastic cover over a crappy looking intake? No comparison to a great small block with headers, period correct valve covers, and beautiful intake setup. I register in car shows now not for judging, but to snag a good parking place so I can enjoy viewing the other cars without worrying about where mine is parked. I'll run the top up and down to entertain onlookers, and let some little kids sit in the driver's seat. Their thrill always brings a smile to my face. At a show last fall, I was the only C8 on the grounds. But then, a guy shows up in a 911 GT3 RS. Took the award for the 2000+ category. But not that I really cared that much, and it is a really awesome car. So soon, I'll be at some other shows and pay the registration fee for a parking place, but not expecting any accolades.
Wait... they give "engine" points to coupes because they can see the molded plastic engine cover? Ridiculous.
I'd buy a cover and either toss it on the passenger seat or lay it in the frunk. What's the difference? They are not "seeing the engine" any better on a coupe than that!!!

It's perception. When I look at mine I see more than just the "molded plastic engine cover". Laying a cover in your seat may make your snarky self happy but won't get any points either.
If the "show" had the rule you have choices, go and enjoy or don't go. You could also get in the position to change the rule or more accurately make an exception to the rule.

New cars in car shows are like four doors in car shows. Makes no sense.
Agree except a lot of car shows are done to try to raise money for a worthy cause....We had one for years at my work for the American Cancer Society so it was open to anything with wheels including a motorized bar stool......

I disagree. I’ve put my C8 in four car shows this year - where the entry fees go to charities - and get plenty of people who stop by to admire it, take pictures of it, and talk to me about it. I don’t have a spoiler on mine or any other mods and I just put the top down on it. In my experience at car shows the people with the older muscle cars, etc….don’t keep up with new cars but are very interested in the C8.
@RLStinger - I put my 21 HTC in a show last weekend and was entered into the “all original” category. I parked next to a friend of mine who had his recently frame off restoration 69 Trans Am there. I had no chance!

The judges are looking for cleanliness of the engine bay, not just wanting to see the engine. They will sometimes actually use a rag and do spot check for cleanliness. They can do that with the coupe, but not with the HTC even if you put a plastic cover on it. When I used to have corvettes, 2006 and prior, I was in a lot of car shows and the judges always wanted to check the cleanliness of the engine bay, so this is not a new rule, at least in my areas. I lived in OK at the time and participates in shows in OK, AR, TX, CO & KS. All were the same.
My C8 HTC has never been my show car. I drive it to cruise-ins, meet-ups, or the occasional All-Corvette event. If I do take it to a judged car show, I never expect or compete for an award. I go to those kind of events to hang out with my friends and other car enthusiasts. As others have mentioned, most car shows are put on to raise money for a charity which I gladly support with my registration. So showing the engine bay on my HTC is not a high priority for me. If the chance of rain is small, I display my C8 with the top down. In my opinion, that's the way the car looks the best.
