Sold my 2020 to CarMax (Norwood, MA) last fall. They were higher than Carvana, Vroom, etc. Handed me a check and a bag with my plates and registration. The actual appraisal was smack dab in the middle of the online quote range. Extremely painless.
I have had good luck with CARMAX,Just keep your expectations reasonable. The online appraisal is what they will pay you understanding you give them accurate intel.
Not CarMax but Carvana. As in post #2 I checked CarMax, Vroom, etc. In my case Carvana was the highest (for a Miata). .. Wound up buying another Miata from 'vana 3 years later.
FYI: I sold my 2017 Grand Sport Convertible, last August to Corvette Mike's of New England.
I spoke to Mike G., Manager, over the phone. Sent pictures, all info, ... and we came to an agreement if my car was as I told him.
I drove down to Carver MA, and he looked over my car and agreed. My wife and I walked out with a check $5k more than Paul Masse Chev. said they would give towards my on-ordered 2024 C8.
Also a nice option, Corvette Mike's is affiliated with MacMulkin's. Corvette Mike's can buy your car as a trade-in for a car at MacMulkin's.
I suggest you calling or visiting Corvette Mike's in Carver MA.
I’ve only had positive experiences selling to CarMax. They have always paid what the online quote said they would pay. I’m also honest and don’t play games with the cars details, so there is no reason for the offer to change.
If you have a loan out for the car they will call your bank and arrange the payoff and then cut you a check for the remainder. If you own the car outright they just cut you a check.
At this point when I sell a car I just sell it to CarMax. Sure I get a few grand less then selling private party but the effortless factor makes up for it.
I just checked my C7 at CarMax, they are 5k below KBB private sale. Hmmm, seems low to me.
There are a lot of factors at work. Going into the tail end of summer they may not want another sports car on the lot. Or C7’s may not be moving too fast in the questionable economy.

private sale almost always brings more than selling/trading to a dealer because that dealer has to also try to make money by selling it as competition to the private sellers.

Not too keen on private sales. Buyer, of course, will insist on test driving it first. What if something goes wrong with the test drive? I'd prefer selling my car to a dealer or vendor instead, maybe at a slight loss, just so I'm completely out of the picture. Also, no worries on keeping up appointments with people just wanting to look at it and not buying.
of course Carmax is going to give you less than a private sale, when you do a private sale, you are the retail seller, Carmax and any dealer is giving you wholesale prices meaning lower, so they can make some money when they sell it. They’re not doing it because it’s a charity…
and the money I make from a private sale isn’t worth my time. I don’t want people coming to my house, I don’t want to go through the transactional nature of the deal, or verifying his funds, etc. etc. etc. I’ve always traded my cars to the highest dealer price. I’ve sold two cars to Carmax, very happy with them.
Just sold my C-6 to Carvana two weeks ago, easy as it gets…price was way above dealer offer so a no-brainer there…dropped car off, funds were transferred less than 18 hours later to my account. Can highly recommend them if you’re inclined to go that route, doesn’t get any easier than that.
I tried carmax a few days ago to see what they'd give me and they said for 'high value' cars they will do it in person. I sold my audi to them a year ago and they gave me an online quote which they honored when I turned the car to them.
I have had only good experiences with CarMax. Sold my Impala to them several years ago and they gave me $500.00 more than my online quote. I also sold them my C6 and C7. I find they pay very fair prices and you get a check the very same day. No problems with people coming over and kicking tires.
Carmax was by far the smoothest, easiest car sale I've ever been a part of. Beat every other dealer in the area by a LOT and was almost at what I'd charge private party. Literally from the time I sat down to the time I was walking out the door with the check (this was after the appraisal which was quick - good for 7 days) and paperwork signed was about 30 minutes.
A company called Driveway a few years ago gave me $72k for a 2021 Tahoe RST with a few thousand miles on it. I qualify for GMS (Employee Pricing) and paid around $63k for the Tahoe.. Finally decided to get a new C8. Inquired with Carvana about my 22 Camaro ZL1 with 160 miles on it. They offered 54,$52,600. Traded the Camaro on the new C8 at s Chevy dealer and got $64k. Just looked to see what Carvana would appraise my red 2024 C8 1LT,Z51, with 2 removeable tops (clear and red) with 180 miles. Their offer $60,900. These were all internet quotes and sight unseen.
I have had hit and miss with Carmax. I tried selling my 2022 Cayman T to them and they had no idea how to appraise it. If it is specialty they aren't very good. They offered $14k less than GiveMeTheVin.
