Nobody said you're stupid... I was just merely stating how dealer techs and DIYers alike remove fluid from the transmission.

Man, some of you guys are brutal on here with your comments. Some people just don’t know so they ask.

BTW, Peoria IL? I’m near Elgin IL, what kind of beer you like.

Mine went to 3 years and 7500 miles at the same time, two weeks ago. $1258 out the door for trans oil change and DCT filter. Had the oil changes in May, 2024.

had mine done this week....$775 transmission service only...I change my own oil and filter. Plus I got a 20% discount because I am a member of the Corvette club sponsored by the dealership. So final price was $620 plus tax!

Okay,....I am totally confused and need some explanation. I have a 2024 MY (delivered in Dec 23) and I read the service maintenance in the manual. It states oil change and filter at 7500 (every 7500 miles) or every year or whenever the system recommends it. Air filter if the system displays it.

The other service at 7500 is to replace the external canister filter even if already replaced prior to this over a certain mileage. It says this service can be complex, see your dealer. NOT A LOT OF HELP.

Some my question is this...is the transmission service at this point at 7500 miles a replacement of the filter and a tranny drain and refill requiring no special equipment? Is a scan tool required to tell the computer this has been done, does it even care or does a screen allow the owner to show the change took place?

If this is simply a drain and refill can a owner do it without any special tools, assuming a person has a full set of tools, works on their own cars and can get the entire car 2 feet off the ground to easily get under it.

THANKS!

Agreed, and same here. My '21 is gone and replaced with my '24 Z06/Z07. With a lift it's a very easy job. Also, try not to pay list for the parts. I'm doing my 1500 mile oil/filter, dct filter and fluid top off tomorrow. List for the two filters, the plastic dry sump drain plug, and the DCT fluid is $317.15, I was able to get it for $202.00. With the lift, the transmission fill hole is easily accessible in the driver's rear wheel well.

At current prices, the material costs to do the service are:

8 qts 5w50 oil $98
1 qt DCT $29
filters & drain plug $173
Sales tax $44

Total $344 ( Note: the price would be a total of $721 when it's time to do the entire transmission flush, needing 14 qts of DCT)

So basically the dealer is charging the difference in labor. Takes me about 2 hours to do the job start to finish, and I find $1000+ in labor to be a little spendy.

Gp1200x - do a search on YouTube! Plenty of great videos on how to do all the maintenance on your C8. I recommend watching several to get the best technique and hints to make it easier. I personally do all my own maintenance.

Thanks! I'll follow your advice. I don't like paying for anything I can do with my own tools which my garage is full of. I just have no car lift.

Low profile jack and some jackstands or wheel cribs will do the job. I built two wheel cribs out of lumber that hold the car as high as it will go with my jack.

Is a scan tool required to tell the computer this has been done, does it even care or does a screen allow the owner to show the change took place? [DCT external canister filter only. No drain and fill. Scan tool is not required to reset the filter life monitor. There is a step that performs a Hydraulic System Flush - which is initiated by a scan tool and takes 8 minutes while the car idles. Josh Holder, the Chief Engineer has stated that you can skip that step if you are doing it your self. There is also a level check in the procedure - after replacement of the filter - the car is idled, the gear selector is cycled, and then the level is checked and adjusted. The level check is supposed to be done when the transmission temperature is less then 104 deg F. Finally, there is an internal, scan tool initiated leak test at the end of the procedure. Josh was not asked about this procedure and its not discussed much on the forum - you can probably skip that if you are doing it yourself.]

If this is simply a drain and refill can a owner do it without any special tools, assuming a person has a full set of tools, works on their own cars and can get the entire car 2 feet off the ground to easily get under it. [its not done at 7,500 miles, But, when conditions require it, it is a simple drain and fill and does not require special tools. The is no flushing of the case, and flushing the case should not be attempted]

THANKS!
Here is the required maintenance for the items you mentioned:

1. Change the engine oil when the Oil LIfe System tell you to change it (you will get a message on the DIC), or at least once per year (the OLS includes the one year requirement in its calculation) or every 24 hours of track use, whichever is first. Your manual does not say to change the oil every 7,500 miles, rather, it says Every 7,500 Miles..."Check engine oil level and oil life percentage. If needed, change engine oil and filter, and reset oil life system." The OLS is going to indicate a need to change the oil at, or before 7,500 miles.

2. Change your DTC external canister filter at 7,500 miles +/-500 miles even if changed earlier, then at 22,500 miles, then every 22,500 miles thereafter, or when the transmission filter life system tells you to change it, or every 24 hours of track use, whichever is first. There is, no need, and no requirement to change the fluid when changing the DCT external canister filter (unless the triggers are coincident). Your 2024 manual also says "when the CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID SOON message displays, change the fluid and external canister filter within the next 1 000 km (620 mi)." That last sentence is the only time it explicitly says to change the filter and fluid at the same time.

3. The transmission fluid must be changed when the transmission fluid life system says to change it, or at least every three years (and the fluid life monitor does NOT include the three year requirement so the owner must observe that), or 45000 miles, or every 24 hours of track use, whichever is first. The fluid change is a simple drain and fill - and there is no requirement to change the filter at the same time unless the triggers are coincident.

You can damn near pay for "lower mid range 8000# 4 post" in savings by doing your own C8 engine and DCT filter and fluids maintenance, to 45000 miles!

If you are going to be doing the maintenance on this car, a quickjack would be a wise investment. Pay for itself pretty quickly as well.

I also thought that the extra two quarts should not be installed in the MY 24 tranny. Mine was one of the early 24 units.

I would have to look into that to see how high they raise the car. I have long aluminum ramps that I bought for my Shelby work and they raise the front or back tires up about 14 inches off the ground. Usually high enough or else I use jackstands. No room for a lift in my garage.

THANKS... I will be following this advice and doing and documenting my own work. Seems to be much simpler than what some of the other comments implied.

I still recommend you get access to a Service Manual. There are cheap ones on ebay - they are not perfect - but will be good enough for most of what you want. There are some details to the dct filter change - the bolts holding the filter cover on should be discarded and replace with new ones in the kit which come pretreated with threadlocker of some sort. The threads in the housing should be cleaned with a thread chaser (not to be confused with a tap) before re-installing the bolts. And know and do not exceed the torque limit for those bolts. There have been at least two reports of forum members twisting off the bolts during install. On was able to fish out the remainder of the bolt. The other had to have the housing replaced.

I thought when I picked up my car I was informed about a free maintenance visit (have to review my docs though). Is this standard by Chevy or a dealer perp and what does it include and how far out can I push it out if I where to do my first few oil and filter changes myself?
