I’m a “bit” frustrated with the way the frunk works (or more precisely, doesn’t work) on my 24 C8. I have over 6k miles with the car and I’ve tried to contain my dissatisfaction with the stupid frunk but I can’t hold it anymore. Its soft close mechanism works on and off without any rhyme or rhythm. I saw some posts about needing to be woken up (really?!!!) but I haven’t found any repeatable way to make it work. I tried to push it down, use the key to open it again (even though it was open), I lifted it and tried again to push it down, I sang to it, lit a candle, gave it coffee to “wake” it up, etc. it’s just a piece of … crap and my next move is to use my soccer cleats on it.
What makes this idiotic is that the trunk works perfectly in any situation so what smart engineer at GM decided to change this for the frunk?!!
Are you ever keeping it open for more than a minute or two? At some point it does go to sleep but unless you’re routinely leaving it open that shouldn’t be the issue.
I almost exclusively use my front trunk over the rear because of the heat back there and have never had a problem in 5 months of ownership.
If you’re not leaving it open for long periods and you’re still having issues it’s not a design flaw is a unique problem that needs servicing.
No, I don’t leave it open for any long periods of time. Last time, my engine was running and by mistake I pressed the frunk button instead of the trunk so, with the engine running I went to close the frunk and the soft close didn’t work. And this is just one example. I then had to press the button on the remote and somehow I was able to engage the soft close. Terrible!
I've noticed when leaving the Frunk open for days while I charge the battery...it won't do it's automatic close when first pushed down. So I typically hit the Frunk open button twice on the remote and this seems to "wake up" the system. Then it closes properly when pushed down. I should also mention I keep the keys in a Faraday pouch so maybe this is why the Frunk never seems to work on first attempt.
You have this soft close frunk because people begged for it. Unlike the extra safety features which are being mandated moving foward.
What chevy SHOULD'VE done was just put the motors on the front and rear so that they open and close by themselves when commanded. But they didn't. The soft close frunk is about the dumbest thing there is given you still have to whip it down to catch or you're pushing on the hood ANYWAY. Typical over engineered but not engineered enough solution.

Based on this I think you need to take it in for service. I'm not saying you'll like the feature once its working properly but yours is definitely not working as designed.
No problem with mine, sometimes if it's open too long the soft close won't work, so I just push it closed, no big deal.
In my opinion both the lids should be auto up and down like so many hatches these days.
It doesn't seem to matter how long I leave it open on my '21. I haven't left if up for days but I have for easily over 15 minutes and no difference in its operation.

The 2024 was first year of the soft close....that needs to be slammed...not too soft..lol
Yea, not my favorite feature, but seems to work OK when I use the FOB to wake it up. It would be nice if it was as fluent and consistent as the hatch, but probably has something to do w/the double tap safety mechanism.
Can only comment on my own experience for my '24 and has worked perfectly ever since. If I open and need to close the trunk, I simply push down until it hits the first click and take my hands away. Soft close does the rest. If I've had the frunk open for an extended period (charging the car or whatever), I will either press the release button in the trunk or the one under the headlight to "wake it up" and do the same thing. Frunk closes without issue every time. Respect this may not work for others but adding the info in case others find it helpful.
