Default Another DIY Engine Cover Thread

Title says it all... Spent Sunday painting my engine cover red while watching F1 and IMSA racing.

Turned out pretty okay over all for about $50.

When ordering paint I didn't pay close enough attention and bought enamel primer for lacquer paint so skipped the primer. Womp Womp..

Taping the corners of the silver corvette blade was probably the hardest part of the job.

The other thing I was fighting was basically 100% FL humidity but I would have to wait months for it to not be this humid. The clear coat got a bit cloudy from the humidity but I cured it in the oven for 20 mins at the end that clear most of it up.

Overall learned some things for next time but it's good enough for me to keep as is.

The dupli color barcelona red was pretty close to a perfect match. It was not looking great before I got the clear coat on but once I did it really was a close match. Since there is no "edge red" over the counter this was a good fill in, it has pretty heavy flake which matches the heads.

Good job! FYI, the aluminum "corvette" pieces come off easy as they are taped on...

Thanks! I saw a guy bend it trying to get it off in one of the other threads so I just decided to take up about half the F1 race taping lol.

here’s another paint formulation you can use if you can’t find the dupla colors above. The added advantage is the rust oleum gloss actually needs no clearcoat over it, it has great gloss by itself. You can buy this paint at Home Depot/ Lowe’s along with the matching primer. It came out great : two coats of primer, three coats of paint.
Amazon Amazon

I found the black lettering and stripe gloss wrap on Amazon.

Looks good, what did you use on the corvette logo? Paint or a decal?

Added another little touch for $20 off Amazon. My interior has some carbon fiber trim and red seats so now the theme matches.
