Default GM free first service can now be done as over two visits

Had crankcase oil/filter changed today, at 2,000 miles. I supplied oil/filter. Dealer labor was $48.00. Next year I should hit 7,000 to 8,000 miles then have crank oil/filter and trans filter done on GM’s “dime”. My advisor informed me that they will now do crank oil/filter and trans filter as two separate events under the one free service (up to three years on my ‘24). That may have been the new arrangement for some time, but it is news to me.

The split service, like the 3-year is for '24s and newer, does not apply to the '23s and older. Perhaps some dealers do it on the older ones, just don't know that GM reimburses them on the older ones if split service.

My Z06 is currently in for the free oil/filter/DCT service at 7200 miles, and unfortunately replacement of the oil pan gasket. I knew that was a thing for early Stingrays, didn't think it was for Z06s with the newer DCT pan.

Yeah I’m sure I’ll catch hell for my opinion but I think I would have had the dealer change the DCT filter as well. With so many issues popping up with this transmission im not taking any chances.

Nope smart IMO! That is what I did for my 2020 C8 Z51 with ~3000 miles year one. Will do exactly the same for my 2024 E-Ray this coming January with about the same miles. The main reason is number of posts of early DCT CELS:
  • Dealer gave GM Service the CEL Codes
  • GM Service said perform a Flush
  • No new filter or fluid, just a Flush
  • A Flush is specified in the GM procedure PRIOR to replacing the DCT Filter to get debris into the filter housing (and watched the great Tech who changed my DCT filter twice do each time
  • Most with early CELS reported it wa gone and didn't return
Yep I was of the old school re replace engine oil early. But with my C7's knew it was not really needed as Tonawanda machining has gotten "race car like" over the years, cylinder hones as well. The steel cylinder sleeves and coated piston shirts don't have the break-in wear as in the past. Other parts are also coated with low wear material.

In addition I would never ask a dealer IF I could bring in my own oil and filter. IMO that is like telling a restaurant owner I'm bringing bear I bought from another retailer (and let them make some profit) because his prices are too high. In fact the OP paid almost double what I was for labor for my year 2 oil change! Just Say'n!

BTW, just bought the 240 volt charger pigtail for the EV battery charger that came with my wife's 2025 X5 SUV plug-in hybrid. It lists for $219. Took Pic of Internet cost from a Chicago BMW dealer that showed $161. Asked what they could do and got it for $175. Yep IMO that is reasonable BUT paying another retailer then asking for them to install with their trained tech is a slap in the face to the dealer.
