Default PF64 filter issue

I just purchased an ACDelco PF64 oil filter. I looked inside, as I always do, and noticed what I appeared to be a piece of debris. I took a photo and then pulled the debris out. It was firmly attached to the inside of the filter, but appears to be a section of the filter media where the seam is glued together. It might be just a one off, or it might be a bad run, but I wanted to give everyone a "heads up."

Looks like you got a bad one, defects of that type are rare. When I owned my auto parts stores we would encounter defects from time to time but were most always a dented can or damaged gasket. Good catch!

That’s scary because there was a run of 16s that had defective filters which resulted in blown engines. Good catch.

It looks like a piece of an element. Makes one wonder whether it came from that filter or the one that was made before it.

Is that the most recent part# for the PF64? I have a PF64 on the shelf that I bought about 8 months ago, it doesn't have as many holes in it.

Yes, that's the newest. Previous one was 25206377.

It looks like they just removed the top ring with fewer holes. The lower ring has a similar number.

Good observation concerning the filter. Next time I change the oil I will make it a point to look inside the filter for anything strange looking.

On my next engine oil & filter change I'm going to try out a little quality Austrian made MAHLE oil filter

It's good that you look, but such is the "cost" of mass production. There are inevitable errors from time to time.
