Hi. New here, so apologies if I'm not following proper protocol.
Anyone have trouble getting stealth PPF wrap on their C8? Ours has been at the (very highly regarded) wrap shop for a couple of weeks now, and the owner called us today asking some general questions like whether we did anything to car before coming in. He said he is a perfectionist and doesn't want to return it to us less than perfect, so he ordered more product to try again, but it just isn't sticking well. We bought it off the showroom floor with 8 miles on it, so we haven't done anything to it.
I wonder if the paint has some sort of special makeup? The color is Cacti Green, which I know is not a common color.
I found a shop in Dallas on Instagram that stealth wrapped a Cacti Green Corvette, and I'm considering calling them to see if they had issues with it.
Worst case we just don't do the wrap, but it looked so badass before they noticed it not sticking, that I'm selfishly a bit sad.
Some dealerships do a ceramic coat right off the transport truck. You may want to check that. If it has ceramic, the PPF is going to have trouble sticking.
If they did, does that mean PPF can never happen? Or? I apologize for being such a noob here! Haha. I'm a woman with limited car knowledge. Just really wanted a beautiful Corvette, so I'm learning!
Having some experience with PPF and ceramic coatings, you may have a problem. As stated, if the car has been ceramic coated the PPF will not bond to the surface of the car. The Ceramic coating must be completely removed which can be difficult. You should find out exactly what the dealer coated the car with and call the coating manufacturer for instructions on how to remove it.
If its ceramic coated, then the ceramic coating will have to completely buffed off before application as others have stated. I know that some dealers also put something like a f carnauba wax on cars as well if you let them wash and "detail" your car. Best to not let them touch it, but thats too late in your situation.
Call the dealer and ask them what they put on it and that will let your installer know what needs to be done to get the job done. If you need another shop that is qualified for the job. PM me.
Agree with above, the dealer probably applied some sort of wash/treatment prior to delivery. I would also assume, the highly regarded detail shop would be able to panel prep prior to installation and have it removed. If the dealer did put a treatment on it, I would think the quality would be poor and easily removed.
