Default Slow Leaking Trans

Well, went to an independent shop to get my 22,500 DCT filter service and as soon as they took the underbelly covering off it was clear there is a leak.

I had them finish the service but have already set an appointment with a dealer (not one I particularly like but best near me) to have it looked at.

Glad it’s under warranty and their problem but still a bummer. My exhaust has a squeaky valve as well. I am already on my second active exhaust. Might be a new trans and exhaust coming soon…

Hopefully not but only time will tell.

What year is your C8? My tranny was leaking also and the dealership replaced the pan with the new model. No more leaks.

Early 23. Shop owner said it wasn’t catastrophic but no leak at 22k is good. I’m no wrench so will just need to take it in.

Good luck with the leak repair. Hopefully a fix now will solve the leak for many more miles

A leak in the trans does not mean that a $20k replacement is in order, probably just a gasket

that is true. I read through some previous threads of 23’s with some trans issues. Some had replacement I didn’t see any that was just a gasket. It’s GM’s problem in my mind.

they don’t have loaners so dropping it off in 2 weeks to find out. The advisor exact words were “we don’t repair trans, if there is an issue new trans”

Looks like the drain bolt is leaking. Did someone change the fluid in the past?

Only the dealership until yesterday. Going back to the same dealership that did the last oil change. At first I thought the shop said the trans was leaking but called them and he did say it was in fact oil. Was in a hurry when I was picking it up, should of slowed down and asked a few more questions.

I’d leave that cover off get underneath there and power wash everything real good. I’d think twice about ripping a car apart for sloppy work in the past especially by modern day monkeys.

The shop I went to cleaned the underbody panel. I figure that will show fresh oil over the next 2 weeks while I wait to bring it in. The rest is left as is. Hopefully it is a drain plug and not cross threaded or over torqued. I checked the oil level today and it was bang on so can't be losing much.

Could also be case porosity.

That was my first thought. I am no wrench and wasn't there when they found the leak so will just have wait and see what they say from Chevy.

I am not super worried about it. They will fix what ever it is and this car is getting used and abuse so doesn't bother me too much if they have to take it apart. My biggest thing was just waiting for a loaner to be available.

My car is about to go in for the fourth attempt at fixing a transmission leak. All seals and pan have already been replaced once at this point.

Could the shop not get any idea where it might be coming from? Big difference that is usually discernible if merely a pan-gasket, as opposed to a porous case for example.

they have had a lot of difficulty using tracing powder finding the exact location of leak. All serviceable seals have been replaced at this point so either a seal was defective or the case is the issue

Dang that doesn't sound okay at all. Did they offer to extend your warranty? I am going to ask if they need to do major work.

in conversation with GM now, have also had some wiring issues with the cameras and need a front body harness that aren’t available. Service history on this car looks horrible.

Car went in today to service to get looked at. Hoping a quick turn around but they said they may need a few days.

On the upside I got a loaner and it is a Silverado.... Having the Vette as an only car has some cons. Going to use this truck to go buy a lot of large items I normally couldn't lol.
