Default Advice?

I have a 2022 HTC 3LT Z51 with 40k on it. I will have owned it 3 years in a week. I have really enjoyed the car, and I've had a 2007 and a 2014 before it.

However, in the time I've owned it, I've had to have a new transmission placed, a new amplifier, a new ac condenser (all repaired under warranty) but now it's been at the dealer for a month with HTC issues, initially the cable that retracts the nacelle cover on the drivers side broke and in the process of trying to repair it, the dealer says there is a rail mechanism that is bad and causing the cycle to stop and that's what may have broken the cable. The part alone is 3600 and probably about 5000 with labor.

Do I fix it and wait for the next thing to fail?
Do I fix it and sell it?
Do I sell it to the dealer if they'll buy it without fixing it and let them fix it at cost?

First thing I would do is call GM customer assistance. When you finally get a live person on the phone, immediately ask for a manager. I would then explain that I'm 1 week away from 36 months, but 4k miles over the 36k miles. I would tell that the vehicle has been at the dealer for a month trying to diagnose/fix the current HTC problem and it is still at that dealership. I would also tell them that it had previously been out of commission for a new transmission, and the other stuff you listed above. I would ask that they consider covering this repair as a "good will" consideration, given all of the other issues you have had with their "top of the line" 3LT C8. They may want to contact the dealer where your car is currently at, before a decision. If they come back with a "no" try to bargain with them to cover the part costs and half of the labor and see what they say. You may get lucky and they may cover some of it, or maybe even all of it, given the previous failed major components on your car, or they may just say "sorry". Doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck.

If you bought it new you should still be covered by the B2B warranty. Get if fixed and then keep it (consider an extended warranty) or sell it.

That expired at 36k miles. I have 40k. Probably should have bought extended warranty but did not.

Now that you are out of the Mfg warrenty of 36k. I would do what your gut is telling you. If its telling you to sell it. I wouldn't waste time. Sounds like you are saying that this particular car could be a money pit. You make your own decission there. However. I would check the price of Caravana etc to get a ballpark of what the value is going for in your area (wholesale) sort of speak.

Are you selling to the dealer for a trade in? Or just dumping the car and going to something different?

option 3 and/or take that value and trade it on a new one for the tax savings.

I like the approach Bob T is advocating. Worth a shot.

If you can afford it, if you can get a good trade-in, go for a new one. Maybe a left-over 2024.
It's sad that you have lost confidence in your car.
If you are young, sell it and wait for the C9's to be out. Or sell and buy a used 2019 C7.
These cars are so technical.
Good luck. I hope you find joy in owning a Corvette again.

I agree that there are better and more reliable cars out there. I'd see if the dealer will buy it from you and look for something else. That's a lot of big items to fail for a 3-year-old car with 40K miles.

Appreciate the input. Both dealer and myself trying to interface with GM about this. I've already taken the depreciation hit so will probably repair and keep moving. I genuinely love driving the car, I just wish mine was a reliable as most of yours are...

So GM came back and said that if I paid 1800 they will cover the repair which is estimated to be 5000 to 5500 and I should have the car back by next weekend. I think that's reasonable given the car is out of warranty by 4K miles at this point so I'm going to fix it and keep it. Thanks for your input and I hope whatever gremlin found its way into my C8 never finds your cars!

Tough decision. Several options offered by you.

I'd likely trade it in on something new, given the miles on it.

Shop around dealers.
