I drive my C8 Coupe year 'round when the roads are clear, but I am concerned about getting caught in a heavy rain, which would cause water to enter the engine compartment through the vents.
I would appreciate any experiences and suggestions from C8 Coupe owners. Thanks.
Get more water in during a wash than driving in rain. I try not to drive mine if I know it’s going to rain but have been caught many times. Don’t worry, it cleans up.

The C8 like every mass produced GM car or truck is designed to get caught in a down pour rain storm. If you can drive until the rain stops and get the car dry off, and especially in the engine compartment, then that is the best case. Never drive hard and put away wet.. right?
GM rain water testing" refers to the process of General Motors (GM) testing vehicles for their ability to withstand rain conditions, typically by subjecting them to simulated heavy rainfall in controlled environments to ensure proper water sealing and functionality in wet weather scenarios; essentially, it's a quality check to see how well a car performs when exposed to significant amounts of rain.
Key points about GM rain water testing:
Purpose:
To identify potential leaks, water ingress points, and ensure critical components like electronics and engine compartments remain protected during heavy rain.
Testing methods:
High-pressure spray systems: Large spray nozzles simulate heavy rain, directly targeting the car from various angles.
Water immersion tests: In some cases, the car may be partially submerged in water to check for leaks at specific points.
Controlled environments: Testing is usually conducted in specialized chambers that allow for precise control of rain intensity and duration.
Areas of focus:
Seals and gaskets: Inspecting the integrity of door seals, window seals, roof seals, and other critical areas where water could potentially leak in.
Drainage systems: Checking the effectiveness of drainage channels and gutters on the car body.
Electronics and sensors: Assessing the functionality of electronic components when exposed to water.

Happy New Year!
Now that I have an E-Ray with AWD since February I drive in the rain all the time. Handles great set to Weather Mode, even with 345 rear tires. Get no more water in the engine compartment than I did with my 2020 C8 I drove for 4 years when i washed. Very little. Just drove my E-Ray in rain the other day, wipers on for the full drive. Came home rain had stopped to I used my hose soaper and washed the car. Opened the hatch to check the engine compartment as I do after washing and little water. Used the few oz I pick-up on the corner of a large towel to wipe off the dust and dirt that comes in every time you drive thru the rear fender air scoops. Used the 90% dry part of the towel to wipe the dust. Takes only a few minutes. BUT not needed and I don't do if it only is raining.

I guess you have never washed your car or had your car washed yet?
With that being said I don’t drive my car in the rain.
There is literally 0 issue with water and the vents in a Corvette. All cars are designed to be have water hit engine areas and are sealed/protected from common moisture intrusion.
If one really thinks about it, front engine - (most cars through the decades) have large openings in the front of the car that allow air, (and water) to pass the radiator. and into the engine compartment. Unless you have a aero sealed bottom sports car, you can see the road through most engine compartments when the hood is open, this also allows water to splash up on engine. Rain water is forced through these areas at speed and splashes/passes in these area and into the engine compartment. Road grime, salt etc..are common to enter front engine cars engine through these areas.
If anything, mostly clean soft rain water is all that would come in a Vette vent. Washing is also a simple thing as you just lay towels under the vents and when you are done just a quick dab up around engine area and all looks beautiful.
How much water from rain and following traffic goes through the radiator and into the engine compartment of C1-C7 Corvettes? They seem to survive it OK.
Maybe this is their first mid-engine car with open vents in the rear and they want to make sure that excessive hard rain will not bother their new ride. Doesn't hurt to ask.
I live in the PNW. It rains here. I didn't have a garage or carport for the first year I owned the car. .. If it were a problem they wouldn't have made it that way.
Mid-engine Ferrari, 50K miles.... yes, a bit of water gets on the engine. Mid-engine Vette, 31K miles... yes, a bit of water gets on the engine. You think a C7 Vette,130K miles.... front engine car, didn't get wet when driven in the rain? It's a car.... not some kind of delicate plant or jewel.... as Zormecteon said: "Non issue."
This E-Ray is my second C8. I average 10K miles a year in them while avoiding rain when possible. As far as washing, except for the wheels and tires, I never put a hose on the cars. I use Croftgate Wash & Wax.
I daily my car in S Florida where there are huge summer rain showers. I drive it regardless and it does fine. The only issue is when the engine is hot it does fog up the rear window, I have 1LT no camera mirror, so put on the defrost and it sort of helps. I park it dripping wet and when I clean the car the engine bay goes back to looking new.
I have even been forced to drive through standing water more than once and the car did perfectly fine. Although I wasn't thrilled about it.
