Buyback Vette Now Also Has DCT Problems
Codes P284E and P7000. Got the dreaded “idle creep temporarily disabled” message while driving the car normally. Car runs fine. Anyone with thoughts or input on the two codes? This Vette that replaced my lemon I bought from Fremont Chevrolet just 2 months ago threw these at 3000 miles. Fun times right? I think I’m about done with Corvette. 300 miles from home on New Years. TWO brand new corvettes. Two with faulty DCT issues. Brining the car into Fremont tomorrow. I am so done with this S$&t. It took 3 weeks for the buyback on the first one. Who knows what in the hell happens now? Yes I woke up with a darn anxiety attack this morning. Almost 180k worth of Corvettes in 2 months turning into lemons…. I just want the nightmare to end at this point. I already missed work and had to take PTO dragging this car down there, almost stranded my partner and I 300+ miles from home… the whole experience has just been abysmal. I wish to God they’d figure out these DCT issues. It’s going to kill the Corvette brand at this rate. I really hate saying that too. Loved my car.
Update 1: While sitting at In N Out eating on our roadtrip back home, I got back in the car and the CEL cleared itself and never came back. Still taking the car in tomorrow due to it being DCT related.
Update 2: Car is in service and they are inspecting it. CEL did not return and shifts were normal when driving. They are thinking it might be software related. Will keep you all updated when they know more.
Update 3: Car is trying to pass diagnostics. We are thinking it’s the transmission fork sensor itself that took a **** if it doesn’t clear and pass. Code was stored in history but we’re not seeing anything else aside from the P284E. If it’s just the sensor I’ll count myself lucky.
Update 4: CEL was caused by a failure of the Manual Shift Detent for gears 5-7. Service requires the transmission drained, cover panels to be removed, transmission mounts removed, and the part replaced.
Update 5: GM wants to replace the entire transmission
Update 6: Fremont has started the buyback process with GM. My claims agent from the first buyback is aware of what’s going on. They are now looking at getting me into a Z06 as this will be my third replacement C8 in 2 months.
Update 7: My service advisor texted me and Engineering confirmed the transmission will need to be replaced. It failed the relearn multiple times and that’s that. Bunk DCT at 3000 miles. Parts alone for the new transmission are 2-3 weeks out + so that makes the car an automatic lemon under CA law cause it’s going to sit for more than 30 days. I have started the buyback claims process with GM. My claims agent is handling it again same as the previous buyback. They got all the information and are planning on expediting the process so they can get me into a Z06. They’ve never heard of two buybacks back to back for faulty transmissions on Corvette’s… it’s just never happened before I guess which makes my situation strangely unique in the most unwanted way possible. The next step is for me to be patient while they do their magic and hope Fremont sources a trouble free Z06 in the meantime.
Update 8:
Wow it's amazing how fast a repair can be done when they don't want a car to fall under California Lemon Law. The transmission arrived 2 days ago and they are trying to have the car test driven by next Wednesday and released back to me. Fremont stated before they were going to buy the car back, but who knows now? GM said they will make a decision about the buyback on the 21st. My guess is they will try to deny the buyback and send me on my way. I also verified with the service tech that the transmission is an actual new transmission and not a rebuilt. Frankly, I purchased a new car. Not a newly repaired car, and I don't like being GM's test mule when it comes to transmissions. Another thing that comes to my mind is what about resale value? Who is going to want to buy a C8 when it needed a new transmission at 3000 miles?
Update 9: Buyback was approved by GM.
Update 10: Fremont Chevrolet stole 13k worth of my original down payment and never fully transferred my down payment of $44,500 onto the second C8. Instead, they TRADED the lemon against the second service contract and pocketed my money. Just discovered it now.
To recap:
My first 2024 C8 Corvette had a bunk transmission off the showroom floor and had to be bought back under California Lemon Law:

And my now second replacement C8 is having to be bought back for the same exact issue at 3000 miles not 2 months later for DCT related problems. Take my experience with a grain of salt when making your C8 purchasing decisions, but looking back now I never would have touched a C8 had I'd known the hell I'd now be going through.
Your mileage may vary. But DCT issues can occur anywhere between 0 and infinity miles. Because I seriously doubt any of these DCT's will even make it to their expected lifespans at this rate... sigh.

I know we are only hearing about those WITH the problem and many others have none - but still - seems like a high failure probability!

Good luck with yours...especially after all you've already been through with the first one!

It's a damn shame that with prices falling I cant pull the trigger on a hysteria purple one purely because of the ongoing DCT stuff. It's pretty hard to imagine that the % of all DCTs with issues is in the single digits at this point.
Maybe it's just over sensitivity of all the sensors in them. Maybe GM should just yank all the sensors out and let the thing run.

Update: The internal code was a P2856 - Clutch 'B' Pressure Charge Performance. Like I said, there was no DIC message or Check Engine Light. The only way I found it was with a code reader.

And yes, I know that a high percentage of vettes don’t have a problem, but it seems an unacceptably percentage do have a major problem.
The unreliability of a $70-100,000 car is totally unacceptable.

I hope this was just a blip for you and not a reoccuring issue.
