Default Hit a deer

Hi
On my way to KC on Highway 40 E. doing about 75 mph a trucker hit a deer and pushed it in my lane
I basically hit it and ran over it, but I hit it so hard that it lifted the back off the ground and slammed back down luckily I didn’t roll it because I was all over the highway, the front bumper is damaged and the splitter cracked, the Highway Patrol pulled out deer parts stuck underneath the car
it didn’t impact the the steering or the heating cooling system no leaks, but now my roof leaks air like you wouldn’t believe my question is, I’m getting ready to take it to a body shop and I need to have them put it on a lift. I think all the energy from the force of it slamming on the ground did more damaged than I think even the exhaust sounds different does anybody know any good body shops in Bakersfield ca But also what should I tell the body shop guy to look for for complete inspection? Thanks for your help.

Ouch! If only deer whistles worked and everyone had them.

oh im sure the impact did more damage smashing the ground. Were you able to get the truckers info? The trucking company should be paying.

That's the biggest nightmare, like very northern Minnossota with the moose; they just jolt out into the highway; they just don't care...or more like are too stupid to know they will be hit. Yet, it's a multi-thousand-pound animal; you just chopped it's legs off, and now it's decending onto your vehicle. Deer are just as bad; they are all over the place.

Wow, that's terrible! My 9-week-old ERay was rear-ended by a tractor trailer, but I got "lucky," if you can call it that. Your car probably has more damage than mine does.

The trucker that hit me took off, but I was able to track him down, and his insurance is paying. I doubt the trucker's insurance in your case would pay though, though, even if you know who that is.

Just asking, but did it jar it so much that the rear latch is undone?

with the top leak, the frame geometry is messed up. Could be a very extensive and expensive, time consuming repair.

That is what I was about to type......If your Targa top is whistling at you, that slam could of done something frame-wise. Ya, deer are just a menance......

I meant the rear latch on the top, not the hatch.

You must live in Louisiana . Pretty sure the trucking company won't be paying. On the other hand it seems entirely possible the frame of the car could have been tweaked just a little. I hope you can get it fixed properly. Freak accident.

Stupid question: Have you taken the roof off and put it back on? If so, how did that go?
Thinking the impact may have just jarred it loose.

I'm just curious. Why should the trucking company have to pay for an act of nature? You must be brainwashed by all the ambulance chasing lawyers promising Fort Knox if you have an accident with a truck. In the end all those unfair paid claims do is raise the costs for everyone else.

Here's a great example I found out about from my accountant. This happened to the Trucking Co. she is CFO of.

One of the drivers was driving down the interstate and a van jerked over in front of the truck and cause the trucks automatic braking to engage. As this was happening a jerk behind the truck who was being aggressive jumping lanes trying to pass people jerked over behind the truck at just the right time and ended up running into the back of the truck. All of this was actually on camera and presented in court. There was absolutely nothing the truck driver could do and there was absolutely no fault to place on him other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Well the jerk in the car was awarded a 7 figure settlement. The insurance Co. wouldn't even consider appealing it. We are all paying for that jerk's 7 figure settlement whether you want to believe it or not.

no, I live on the West Coast. I’m not worried about the trucking company. I’m worried that there’s structural damage we will see. I’m gonna pay to get the frame mechanically inspected

I was quoting the gentleman who said the trucker insurance company should pay for it. LA is the most litigious state I've ever lived in. I was going to edit it and suggest the deer's insurance company pay for it for a little levity. I feel bad about your predicament and hopefully it will get resolved for you.
