Default Center Console Question

Hi all,

my center console does not automatically pop up when I open up & was seeing if this is common or if mine might be slightly defective.

When I hit the button (it works just fine, doesn't pop out) the console only raises about an inch then I have to manually raise it. Is it built that way or is it supposed to go all the way up by itself?

Did I miss something? The OP is asking about the lid not springing up, correct? Not about the issue some have had with the button releasing or popping out?

My console lid does not spring up on release either.

That is an engineering FAIL for something that should be more easily replaceable.

Question, has GM "improved" / redesigned this button assembly at all on 20204 or 2025s to address this weak link failure part??

Anyone seen any improvement?

That's correct. I have 0 issues with the button itself, just the console not springing up. Do you know if it was designed that way or if we have faulty springs etc?

Yep, my 2020 C8 and now E-Ray as well! Don't need a spring to fully open, a small amount lets you raise it as you are doing! Just don't push too hard on that button!

BTW, folks have fixed their button that pops out with a hair dryer carefully heating the two progs that keep it in place and bending (spreading) slightly. Find the posts if it ever happens. But some said pressing very hard might be part of the cause. After reading the thread, I am more careful!

the button will release the lid, but it won’t pop up.

I thought he meant the button would not pop back out.
However, no matter button or lid issues, it all as to come apart in a bad way it seems to me.

Button only unlocks the arm rest cover. You will have to use ALL your strength to fully open it. Go to the gym and get prepared.

Trying to decide if getting a gym membership is worth it or if I just want to return the car to the dealer. The car is awesome but the console not automatically opening itself up is a complete deal breaker. 5/5 car is now a 1

Great reply. Love it.
I'm thinking about getting rid of my C8 because according to another poster they put holes in the engine cover and the engine gets wet. Ya know he was right.
I have to flip the car over to get the water out since the bottom is sealed.

Oh my god are you kidding me? Now I might just take it to an abandoned parking lot & torch the thing. Don't want to put a car with an 'exposed' engine & a bad center console on someone else. Shame on Chevy for ever producing this

DOlphan72 is ok. He can take a bit of ribbing and can dish it back. Humor. Some here can't understand it. I think it all depends how hard you hit the buttons on your keyboard.
Now about swapping that Fiero engine into the C8.

My 2023 I push the button and it pops open but I have to lift the lid. I might need a couple beers in between lifts but we will get it open eventually.
If it completely fails to unlatch, we will have a problem but so far, I use it for a few small items and thats about it. It really is a very small compartment and not much anything will fit in there.
