Here's proof, depending on where you live/drive:
When I sold my 1988 and 1993 Vettes they looked new except for the rocker panels and behind the rear wheels. For my C6 decided I would use these very large, contoured, painted body color aftermarket Splash Guards. Worked for rear but still had dings on rocker panels near rear wheel well
GM knew where the problem was and used a "cheap" clear plastic PPF that came standard on my 2014 C7 along the rocker panels from door center up the front of the rear wheels. It was dinged and looked bad in a month. Added full length aftermarket side skirts that solved the issue. Was able to remove the GM plastic. Ordered the Stage 2 Aero Option for my 2017 Grand Sport since it had "full length" not the standard 2/3 length side skirts. Expensive at $4000 even for my carbon fiber painted carbon flash. BUT IMO worth it as no rocker panel or front of wheel well dings when I sold it.
Was no question I would get full length for my 2020 C8 Z51. Worked no dings when sold.
The wide body E-Ray (& Z06) does not have full length side skirts available. Would be hard to make esthetic because of rear body width. So decided I would reluctantly use PPF only behind the 2/3 length OEM side skirts and behind the rear wheels. (BTW the ~$3500 OEM Ground Effects Option side skirts are exactly the same size as the supplied composite but are carbon fiber either visual or painted carbon flash.) Found a quality shop that uses quality film. Owner liked my E-Ray and decided he would do the PPF himself. As his techs brought him tools, steamer etc as requested. Was like watching a Doctor operate! So far in 11 months no digs and can't see film.
Bottom Line
In our rural are roads have no or small dirt shoulders. Debris gets pulled onto the road. Tires pickup and toss pebbles. Even "wide" front splash guards don't go down far enough to stop rocks from the tire bottom hitting rocker panels near rear wheel and in front of rear wheel. Pic below is C8 that when Tracking shows where Track rubber hits! I had use ACS wider splash guards on my C7 Grand Sport. Again do not go low enough to stop all rocks/pebbles.

- More expensive is more better.
- More bigger is more better.
Virtually all plastic aftermarket parts are made in a handful of Chinese factories. OEMs as well. So there is no real branding with aftermarket splash guards. How much you pay for them is a function of how many hands touched them from China to you. And how greedy each is. The splash guards at eBay $25 (4) are the right solution for the simple task at hand.
