Default Oil change

I understand this has been EXTENSIVELY gone over but without having to weed through every thread I'm just conducting a poll. I only have 1,100 miles on my '24 2LT (Away for the snow months) and MacMulkin advised me that I dont need my first oil change AND DCT service until ~7,500 miles. My question for the poll is regarding at what interval has everyone changed their oil (Not DCT).

After the break in 500mi?
1000mi?
5000mi?
or wait until the DCT service is ready to be done?

You need to have 7,000 miles on car before they will change DCT filter under warranty. I have a 2024, and the instrument messaging said my oil needed changing at about 6800 miles, but I waited until 7000 to get oil changed and DCT fiiter changed (and new seat belt retractors fitted because of a recall) at the same time. No charge for entire servicing. Took them about 5 hours to complete service.

At 1 year, or when I got to 7500 miles......... in my case it was 1 year..... and I had 5800 miles on it. The dashboard reminder started telling me that I was getting close, based on time.

Since the initial one, I just change it once a year as I'm not exceeding 7500 miles in a year.

You don't have an option for following the owner's manual which is when the OLM says to change it. In my case it was 4600 miles because the OLM takes time into account and my 1 year was up at 4600 miles.

I changed my oil at 1 year and 2500 miles. In accordance with Owners Manual which says to change it when you get the change oil message from the oil life system, but at least once per year. Since the Oil LIfe System includes the 1 year requirement, it just simplifies to change it when the Oil Life System says so.

The poll actually has no case that fits the Owner's Manual requirements.

The bold text is true for model year 2024 and probably 2025. In 2024 they split the free service - you have two years to claim the free oil change. You have three years to claim the free DCT filter change, but according to a service bulletin, you must also have 7000 miles or more to claim the DCT free service.

Prior to 2024 it was a combined service and you had 2 years to claim it, with no mileage limitations. I claimed my free service at 1 year and 2500 miles (MY 2021). Some dealers tried to tell customers that there was a required mileage, but that is not accurate.

This. It should be the first choice.

Regardless of mileage, engine oil needs to be changed annually and there is not an option for that in your poll. Your results will be screwed, make that skewed

Your poll needs to reflect the recommended service interval: "The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year"

Yes the poll needs some work. First, I think it means the "first oil change" - many have changed it more than once. And its essentially impossible to change the oil at exactly at 500 miles, 1000 miles, or 5000 miles. It needs to be something like 500 miles or less, between 500 and 1000, between 1000-5000, between 5000-7500, and greater than 7.500. At least then it could answered. For example, I changed my at 2500 miles, and slightly less than 1 year. So, I could answer such a poll by selection of "between 1000-5000, even though it would not capture the reason for the change which was due to the %Oil Life Remaining and the 1 year requirement. Not sure what the OP really wants to know.

Another interesting poll might ask the question What was the remaining oil life when you changed your oil? more than 93%, between 93% and 87%, between 87% and 33%, less than 33% but not 0%, and after the remaining oil life went to 0%. These break-points correspond to % remaining at 500, 1000, 5000, and 7500, if it was based only on mileage (which it isn't).

I guess the intent was to explore how many change the oil sooner than what is recommended in the manual - and how much sooner. The answer could be expressed in terms of miles, or remaining oil life, or time. But if you want the answer with respect to what the manual requires, it needs to be expressed in terms of remaining oil life, since that combines miles, temperature, time and revolutions and is the actual basis for changing the oil.

My first oil change was by me. 650 miles. .. The next oil change is going to be by me at 2500 miles and I have a plan to do the DCT filter also. Then the next one will be at 5500 miles again by me.. Now we get to the 7500 mark and I will do the free oil change and the DCT filter service at the dealer.

I am a fan of the "new" oil change intervals since they reflect advances in the longevity of the product. Never had an engine failure due to not changing oil often enough and I don't know of anyone else who has that experience either. If engines were failing under the current interval, the manufacturer would be on the hook for the warranty replacement. That is not happening and the interval has not been shortened. Relax and save money & resources by following the maintenance schedule.

The poll should be:

O I don't know how to read a manual
O I can read but choose to ignore the manual
O Although I bought a C8 I do not believe GM engineers and prefer to get my facts from the internet
O I follow the manual. Unfortunately the original poll has no such choice

19 minutes for a guy to explain that a engine that is capable of 300k+ miles might not make it quite that far if you don’t change the oil in the first 500 miles? I’d rather waste my time doing something entertaining.
