Default 2021 c8 navigation

Is the factory navigation active only for X number of years? When I hit the Nav icon on my 2021 2LT, I get a message that no SD card is found. I have tried removing and re-inserting the card in the console slot with no results.
It would seem really sneaky to include nav in a package only to have it expire after a predetermined time and force you to buy a new card for an exorbitant amount of money.

Not a time limit issue. You either have a bad SD card or something wrong with the hardware or software that reads it. One idea would be to test swap the cards with someone else but idk if they’re locked to a specific vehicle. Hopefully someone else will have more useful advice for you.

Not much you can do besides remove/reinsert the card. SD cards do fail. So perhaps it's time had come?

You can get an update NAV SD card from eBay and amazon vendors $40-50. Just make sure your getting the one compatible with your car. I bought one on eBay several years ago for a Mazda CX5 we have, Seems like it was $39? Came in Mazda Parts OEM packaging. 3 years later no issues. Dealer parts counter told me $449.95!

They are for sure tied to a specific car. Do not try a swap with another vehicle.

Is there a PPP on the car? I under a warranty that covers it, you might consider having a dealer figure it out. If not, obtain a new card and try it out. If that fails, its dealer, warranty or not.

No subscription of any kind is required for Nav to work on a 2021. I have a 2021, and have never had a subscription.

If your saying that only a NAV card for a Corvette will work, I agree. If you are saying that is tied to a particular Corvette, I have a hard time believing that.

Each NAV card is formatted for a specific car (VIN). Believe it.

Oh C'mon! Why is that so hard to believe? Its right there in your owners manual if you have a 2020-2023 model year. See attached. Its also stated in the Service Manaul but not everybody has that.

From the service manual:
"Ensure that SD Cards are not swapped from vehicle to vehicle, SD Cards are VIN specific...... Once initialized, this NAV SD card can only be used for navigation in this
vehicle or Navigation ......"

From the Owners Manual:

For years, various auto makers have keyed the nav card to the specific VIN. This precludes people copying and re-selling.

Yes. But according to both the owner manual and the service manual, this card is intialized when its first inserted in to the car. A new SD card can be put in any C8. It is must not be "write locked". Once inserted, it writes something to the card that permanently pairs with that car. Thats pretty much what the Owners Manual says about it.

That why we can (or so forum member report) buy an ebay card - its not unique to a VIN until its put in for the first time.

Should not be a time limit on how long the NAV works but could be a bad card or a bad reader.

My '21 nav card crapped out (while still under warranty). I'd assume your SD card failed.

IIRC there have been some reported issues with NAV when another MUSIC SD card is used, (not in the nav slot, of course) or a USB drive is inserted with music on it... Something about the sampling rate with the music card interfering with the NAV. ..??

I don't recall the specifics, but if you have recently inserted some music into the center console port(s) .... Perhaps?

Being VIN dependant started with C7. Before that the maps were squirted into memory and owners would trade the update so I understand why GM did this. It is no different than any software sold today. Software is copyrighted and the owners need to protect their property. I used to write copyright applications for my company for years.....

Help
Purchased the 2025 update for my 2021 and put into the nav sd card slot. I get error card removed. Put original card back in and it was OK. Tried again and it said card removed. Put the original card back in and not it will not read the original card. Was there a specific procedure?
