It's hard to believe on a $80K Cadillac the engine cover is an option. I wonder if that is the next cost cutting measure coming from GM on the C8. That would be a sad day, but the bean counters have done worse.

At first, I thought this was another April fool joke - but the article is dated March 30, so I guess not. Its not so much about the "cost cutting" to me. But what purpose does the engine bay cover serve if it is optional? In the C8 HTC, the engine bay cover protects the retracted top from exposure to elements. But in the case of the Lyriq, its apparently entirely ornamental (because its optional). For owners that do not wish to see the engine bay, they won't be opening the hood. For owners that want to see the engine bay, the engine bay cover defeats that. So, who does that leave that wants to open the hood and see the ornamental engine bay cover? Maybe someone that wants to check the washer fluid but does not want to be overwhelmed by the engine bay view? Or to hide the fact that its electric???
Not really an engine cover in the Lyric. More of an "electric cable and relay thing" cover.
Kind of really poorly thought out when an electric car lacks a frunk. It's like they're not even trying.
Yeah, I know. Technically an electric motor is an engine (if you look up engine) , but in normal use, we tend to think of an engine as a gasoline engine or a steam engine, or ??. I thought about editing it to say "motor bay cover". That is some sort of combination electric motor/transaxle in the middle of that "bay" isn't it???
In my original post I was thinking more of the coupe engine cover. The view through the coupe rear window would look like crap without an engine cover.

I see. Yeah, the C8 coupe has an engine cover - its ornamental and covers the intake plenum that some think is ugly. I like the engine presentation in the Coupe, but I wish GM has stylized the appearance of the intake plenum (they did on the Z06) rather than covering. The one in the Lyriq appears to be covering the entire engine bay, which what the engine bay cover does on the HTC. But I get your point - the Lyriq cover is entirely ornamental, same as the engine cover on the Coupe - so it would be like charging extra for the engine cover on the Coupe. The intake plenum on the HTC is not covered. The optional Convertible Engine Appearance Package includes a clear engine bay cover, and an engine cover for the plenum at extra cost. So GM charges for it too in the case of the HTC.
The only Corvette option priced exactly right is that battery protection package...at $100. Everything else is meh...
Oh, and ai can't forget....in the base Porsche 911 that starts at $127,700....they still charge $200 for colored wheel caps.
This Lyriq-V engine cover will sell just fine as an option. I'm not connected enough to electric SUVs enough to understand why a V-series is even an option for this thing.

I will say the Caddy looks much better with the engine cover on the car, but I can understand them charging for one if they can get away with it - more profit from the car.

oh. Don’t forget color override!!
and colored brake calipers. I think once upon a time a c7z came with red calipers. You wanted black….extra charge

The regular LYRIq is 500 horsepower runs high 12s it’s actually very nice the V is even more overkill
Wow 60k for something with a Malibu/Blazer engine.
Yep, its my second one. I get plenty of thrills from my HTC and my 911 S Cab. It's actually a very smooth and peppy LSY. Flame suit is back from the cleaners.....
