Default Frunk Button Blocker

Has anyone heard or is using a frunk button blocker?

Someone gave me one of these several years ago. Evidently the early C8's did not have the cover door on the battery charger port. that's the only thing that I can figure out.

I put one on mine when I travel and the frunk is full. Otherwise it sits in the frunk organizer. Works fine as far as I can tell 😉

The only thing I'd like to do with my fronk is to dampen the sound it makes. (2022 C8) I wish it was similar to the sound the trunk makes or at least quieter.

Anyone here know if there's anything I can do to improve this?

Pardon my density, but I don't see the purpose of this.

I found this on Amazon. Looks like a solution trying to find a problem.
  • If an object in your trunk (groceries, tools, bottles etc) strikes the button accidently, it will cause your front hood to OPEN IMMEDIATELY, regardless of speed! Our Button Blocker protects this from happening and simply plugs into the aux power port next to the emergency release button, blocking objects from coming into contact with the button. The Button Blocker can be easily removed if the emergency release needs to be used or if use of the aux power port is needed.

My 2024 won’t start if the frunk is not completely latched. I would think that the neither of the electric buttons would open the frunk once the engine has started? Of course I could be wrong!

Maybe it would work with the engine started but I wouldn’t expect it to work if the car is in motion.

The intent of the internal frunk emergency release button is to let someone locked in the frunk to be able to open the frunk. It is a safety regulation. My understanding is that it won't release until the car is going slower than 5 MPH (or some similar speed). In theory something in the frunk could shift and accidentally push the button. That is what the button blocker is for. The button on later MY is recessed vs earlier MYs.

All of the buttons (3 on the car and 1 on the fob) will open the trunk even when the engine is running. The whole purpose of the one in the frunk is to allow a child who gets trapped inside to open the frunk and get out, and it wouldn't be very useful if it only worked with the engine off.

There's some history behind the device the OP posted and the frunk opening. Early in the 2020 MY, there were a number of reports of the frunk opening while the car was in motion, wind catching lid, and smashing it back into the glass. People thought it might be something in the trunk hitting the release button. Turned out it was the frunk button on the fob accidentally getting pressed while in people's pockets, or people driving off with the frunk unlatched. That's when GM reprogrammed the BCM so that to open the frunk from the fob you now have to press the button twice and hold it the second time, and so that you can't shift into gear if the frunk isn't latched.

The inside-the-frunk release button is programmed so that if the car is in motion above a certain speed (I think it's 3 to 5 mph, but not 100% positive), the frunk will only release the first latch position. the second latch position remains locked until the car drops below that speed. And it prevents the car from accelerating above a certain speed (26-28 mph?), too. This allows air into the frunk in the event a kid is trapped in there, but prevents the lid from slamming back into the glass. I can't remember if it always worked this way, or if that was a logic change sometime in the 2020-2021 MY, too.

In short, the device referenced really isn't needed. Oh, and every year of the C8 had a cover on the frunk charging socket. These devices were designed to block the release button, not the socket.
