I know there are several PD's using Corvettes that were taken from criminal activities of one sort or another and repainted / wrapped in police livery. They're generally used for publicity purposes, as Avanti said, and not for actual patrol duty.

I offered my local PD to check out and drive my Corvette ZO6 vehicles if they wanted to... Not sure if they will take up on it but still offered.

Having a car like the Corvette or other high end performance vehicle does make for good publicity for law enforcement agencies.
