On my new 2026 C8, the rear engine compartment lid shuts the same as the rear trunk on my C7 cars. That is, I lower it gently down and then with a little pressure, the latching mechanism takes over and pulls it shut. But the front compartment doesn’t seem to have this feature. To close it I have to almost “slam” it before I hear the final latching. What is the normal operation of the front compartment lid shutting?
Drop the front trunk lid from about 12" up and the motor will take it from there. It motor will time out pretty fast if you leave it open requiring hitting the unlock button on the remote to wake it.
2024 SR. While it shouldn't require "training", after a couple months of imperfect closes, I discovered a drop from 15" will activate the "pull down" every time. I do this because I'd rather not need to push the lid down if possible/ easy.
My new 25 e is acting up [fronk] raises up but then acts like a 65 chevy having a second manual hood release . I have to hit the remote a couple of times for it to release it will also raise up after closing too on its own . I do not wanna get stuck with it on the road so maybe a dealer visit .
I was told by the rep at the museum to drop it and when it hits hard enough, the power pull down will take over. I close mine by hand and push down until it makes the first latch, then the power works the rest of the way. The thing crashing into it just seems wrong to me.

I rarely have it not work pulling it down i use either a drop of finger flick down ....its getting it to fully un-latch and then it raises up on it own

Good question and I wonder why it is not covered in the owners manual

You are being sarcastic here, right?
"To close the hood, either drop the hood
about 0.3 meters (1 ft) from the latch,
or lower the hood until it is secured in
the latch and push briefly on the outside
of the top of the hood until the latch
clicks into engagement, then let go of
the hood. The hood will then close
automatically."

The pull down could be out of sync, that is, already retracted and only latching, not retracting. Close the Frunk, then use the remote key to open, it should not pop open but lift then release, if it pops open its out of sync. To get it in to sync, just close and activate the release a few times, I had this happen to me.
On my 25 there have been a couple times when it was as if the vehicle front trunk mechanism had gone to sleep. Frunk would not lock, then I would do something like open the door and it would go back to working normal.

you can also hit the unlock button on your remote and then push down again for the frunk motor to work again.
