I want to change from the black emblems , the corvette script, the stingray emblem and the cross flags front emblem to chrome ones. I have heard of using fishing line to remove the original double face tape, anybody have suggestions on this?

I just recently did this to my fornt emblem and the corvette lettering in the back. I used regular fishing line to get the emblem off. Just going back and forth in a sawing motion. Removing the emblem part is the easiest part. Getting all the adhesive off is the worst. On my other cars I was able to use Goo Gone and some elbow grease, but not on this. I used a plastic trim tool to help me remove the adhesive, along with Goo Gone. Don't be like me though, I put a bunch a micro scratches on the paint by doing this. I wasn't too worried though since it was going to the detailer the next day. He was able to buff out all the marks. Depending on how old the car is/sun exposed you might run into an issue with the corvette script. Once I removed mine I could still see the outline of the lettering. Again, I wasnt too worried as I knew getting the paint corrected would fix it.
get two popsicle sticks… Go get some 80 pound fishing BRAID from Amazon. Cut a piece 3 feet long, tape it to the popsicle sticks and wrap it around each popsicle stick, until you have a “saw“ about 1 foot wide, then grab the sticks and start sawing underneath, use GooGone to get rid of the rest of the adhesive. Don’t just put the Googone on , let it sit on there for 30 minutes, putting a little bit more on with a medicine dropper every five minutes. The whole thing will peel right off and leave a virgin surface.
also GOOGONE AUTO is the newest formulation, it’s a bit thicker so it sticks and doesn’t run. Works good.
BE CAREFUL WITH THE BRAID, IT WILL CUT RIGHT THROUGH YOUR SKIN IF YOU SAW ON IT. THAT’S WHAT MAKES IT SO EFFECTIVE

I have done this on every car I have owned since day one, including at least 6-7 Corvettes. I just walked in the garage and checked what I use. It is some regular ole 50lb fishing line. Saw back and fourth and as mentioned even regular line will cut skin over time. As for removing the adhesive I have 2 methods.
For the bigger areas like emblems goo gone works but can get messy.
For smaller parts like letters you might think I am crazy, but I simply use my fingers and rub really hard and it will ball up. Downfall is it sucks. Your fingers will get raw from rubbing but it is really clean and I just deal with it.
Once I am done. I use a paint cleaner for any blemishes, and then a good wax.
Dont forget to measure exactly where the OEM badges are. You can use painters tape to identify corners and such. I ditched the stingray on the back and replaced my front emblem with carbon flash. Have fun!!!!
Did this with the corvette lettering on my ER. You can ball up much of the adhesive with your finger, as mentioned. Goo Gone will work great. I make sure to rinse out my rag with soap and water, and thoroughally clean the area afterwards, so it doesn't have residue on it--attacking the paint.
I'll probably be debadging the rest eventually. GM already slapped enough logos on this car.
We have Magnum Ice Cream Bars on occasion. A bed time snack eh? And I rinse and save the wooden sticks anticipating a job just like this one. Don't want to eat an ice cream bar? Your kids do.
I remove the emblems from everything (except my early, Excalibur step-in roadster). Fortunately, almost nothing is still "pinned" in place like the front one on my C5 was. Btw, don't pry against the paint with anything; go with fishing-line, small weed-eater line, or even dental floss for small emblems. Don't use 3M Adhesive Remover. It can be unpredictable on some finishes. I stay with GooGone, even if it may take a few more swipes back-&-forth to do the job. All the best.
I took off the Z51 rear wing, and it left some really sticky foam adhesive tape.
I didn't want to use any tools that might scratch the paint, so I just rolled and peeled it off with my fingers and thumbs.
It is not easy and as stated above, my fingers were sore, but it was worth it.
A little bug and tar remover, a little buffing with Meguiars Ultimate compound. All gone, it looks like new paint under there.
If you are removing and going bare, you really need to be careful with the paint.
Fishing line works great — I usually use dental floss or fishing line with a little heat from a hair dryer or heat gun on low. Just take your time and don’t rush it. Once it’s off, use adhesive remover like Goo Gone or 3M adhesive remover to clean up the residue, then polish the area lightly before putting the new badges on.
Thank you all for the great Ideas.I have decided to take it to my local body and paint guy, who also owns a C8. I will have him remove and replace the emblems. I figured It is not worth the trouble of me messing up the finish om my new car.
I've changed out emblems on a few of my vehicles and what helped me out was using a hair dryer to slightly heat up the adhesive, then I used a string of 550 cord guts, which is a little similar to fishing line. For me, heating up the emblem and around it a little was extremely helpful and wasn't hard at all to remove right after. Also cut down on the sticky adhesive.
fishing line and I used this wheel in an electric drill, very easy fast and worked great.
This is the only way to go and highly recommend. Perform on low speed to not cause heat and it will do the heavy work. The residue left over is easly wiped off with carpro tar x CARPRO Tar X | Tar & Adhesive Remover - Autogeek.net

Also "twisting" the emblem and not "prying" the emblem also works much better with removing things held on with the 3m tape.
I prefer this. It's the new Low Voc version of the 3M general adhesive remover. Works amazing, very little rubbing and will not damage clearcoat, paint or interior.
