Took delivery of my 2026 Stingray a few weeks ago and really appreciate the PDR recording track and canyon carving drives. But when I download the files to my iPad all I get is video and sound, but none of the metrics like speed tachometer and g forces that you can see on the car’s playback.
Is there a setting in the PDR or something when I put the SD card in the reader I need to do to get the car’s engine metrics to display on my iPad?
Here is a screen shot that I took after pausing the PDR video. I use windows media player to play them on both my desktop and laptop. Works great. I have never tried to play them on an I pad.
Years ago, I discovered that to get SOUND to play from my PDR recordings on my MacBook Pro, I had to download and install a program called "VLC". Now the sound plays. I've heard of MANY apple users with the same issue.
The VLC logo looks like an orange highway road cone. FREE download. I've had it for years on several of our Apple devices.
On the newer cars you will have to install AliveDrive app on your smartphone or tablet to see all the metrics
I think this started in 2025
There is not a computer app as of yet
This is probably your problem

I downloaded AliveDrive and it sets up a split screen, actual video on the left and various metrics on the right. Interestingly, not the ones recorded and displayed on the car’s video screen. Three tabs (Performance, Driver Input, Forces). Performance is similar to the overlay on the dashboard display, driver input is unique, time delta, throttle and brake position, steering angle, and forces are lateral and longitudinal G’s and speed. But all I really want is what I see on the car’s dashboard display
Congrats on the new C8! 🎉 The PDR is an awesome feature I use mine all the time for track days and twisty road runs. What you’re seeing is totally normal. The video files on the SD card only contain the raw video and audio. The telemetry data (speed, RPM, g-forces, throttle, etc.) is stored separately in a data file that the iPad’s video player can’t read. That’s why you don’t see the gauges when you play it back there. To view the full overlay, you’ll need to pop the SD card into a computer and open the files using Cosworth Toolbox (it’s free on Chevy’s site). That software syncs the video with the data and shows all the metrics just like in the car.
Well I’ll give it a shot but their website says “Suitable for use with Microsoft Windows 7, 8 & 10 (what, no love for version 9?). Well I have version 11 so we’ll see how this goes.
I appreciate there’s a wealth of information but it seems pretty simple to just WYSIWYG the transfer and allow all the other metrics to be accessed by other programs. But I guess that’s not the GM way.
In recent Blackwing class at Spring Mountain they said 2025 Caddies PDR had been updated by Cosworth for AliveDrive app not Toolbox to get the overlay and metrics.
You can swipe the recordings to get overlay or no overlay
for track racers it’s great because they can compare 2 laps on the same screen
But I miss the older PDR version from my 23 C8
Something seems odd.
Perhaps @Danlbrau you could post up some pictures from your in car screen. Show us how you have the PDR setup and perhaps we can point out what changes to make?
Here is a PDR file (playing from the SD card inserted in my computer), using VLC as the player on Windows 11.
Vehicle 2021 C8 Z51 w/ PDR (obviously)
You can see the file name in the upper left, and all of the overlays are showing.
I ask this same question couple weeks ago. No sound on my MAC even with VLC. Someone asked me simple question, "do I have Sound selected in PDR settings".
Didn't know I had to select Sound. I went into Settings PDR and Sound was not selected.
As a FYI, you can also SAVE a track / road and then it will TIME you when you go down it if selected. Pretty fun once you have them saved.
For example, I have a good curvy back road that leads to my house. I saved it leaving my house, as a Autocross/ not a circuit (this allows starting and ending points to be different.) you can only SAVE one at a time. So I saved the leaving home one first. Then once back home pull memory card, open on laptop and rename that saved file. Its now named "Dughill Leaving"
Then next time I came home on that road I saved the track the other way. Again pull card and rename it "Dughill returning" so now I have both ways saved as tracks.... so if am taking that road, I can select that track in the PDR. and it will automatic time that road from my starting and end points saved with the PDR recording overlay and all.
an save as many as you want, if you rename them. I think I have 1 real track (Barber) and like 5 local roads I like. just fun to see your time even if traffic and stuff something to play with.

Now Sound is selected.
It was a simple error.
The only time I flip the PDR to record sound is when I take it to the dealer for maintenance. Otherwise, I don't want private cabin conversations recorded.
I just picked up my new Stingray last week. Playing with the PDR and can't get the videos to display an overlay when I plug the SD card into my PC. I have my PDR set to Sport. Go back to the car and the screen shows all overlay data and even switches between track, sport, none. I downloaded the Cosworth app and tried to load a C8 PDR file. It tells me "Selected recording contains no data". Obviously the data is there because I see it in the vehicle. Never had this issue with my C7. Pull up one of my C7 files in Cosworth and all the data is there with overlays (and all kinds of other cool info).
Something seems odd.

Ive tried VLR, Alive Drive and Cosworth Toolbox all with subpar results. On one of these programs I have a split screen that shows various metrics that I’m not interested in such as steering wheel, accelerator and braking inputs, but nothing shows what I can see on the car’s playback to the dashboard screen.
At this point I’m just giving up because the only thing that seems remotely useful is to just use my phone to record what’s shown on the car’s display. And I don’t want to have to open some other program to open the files for playback. And it doesn’t even seem possible on my iPad. So, a swing and a miss Chevy!
And I did change the settings in the PDR to track so that the data would be recorded. Still didn’t help on playback on my computer.

So weird. I just copied one of the MP4 files from the card to my Mac and it plays fine with the overlay and everything. Nothing special. Are there other files besides MP4 on there, I only did this once so can't recall. Below is a screen shot of what I get. I wasn't on a track or anything and maybe this isn't what you're expecting but seems somewhat OK for my purposes.

That is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m going to get a new card reader. The one that came with the card isn’t working now, which could be part of the problem.
You want to use a brand name high quality SD card. I have had no issues with Samsung, Sandisk, Kingston, and Lexar. If you buy them on Amazon,
stick with the Manufacturers "store". There are fake "knockoffs" sold by third party sellers.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
