So the other day I'm in my backyard cooking on my grill and I hear my Corvette engine start in my garage (I live alone). WTF I think is someone stealing my car out of my garage? I run through my house and into my garage and it is sitting there with the engine running and the garage door closed. I grab the FOB and turn it off. I take my cellphone out of my pocket and see that, for some reason, the MY CHEVROLET APP is running and it's on the page showing the START button. I have had other apps startup when it's bouncing around in my pocket but this time it bounce started the app and then bounce started my car. Anyone else ever have this happen?
The App for my RAM truck makes you create a PIN. After you hit the remote start icon (or lock/unlock) it makes you enter the PIN to make sure you actually wanted to do that. I am not sure if that can be setup on the GM app
Wow, that’s wild! 😳 I’ve never had it happen personally, but I’ve heard of the app doing weird stuff like that if it opens in your pocket. Definitely a good reminder to either log out of the app or set up your phone so it needs Face ID or a PIN before it can start the car. Kinda scary thinking it could remote start while sitting in a closed garage!
I have started it one time with the app to prove it works, then promptly logged out of it to prevent an accidental start. If someone has your phone, does that make it possible to steal the car? I think a pin or two step process would be helpful here.
