The c5 and c8 are miles apart an there is no familiarity between the 2. In he jump that you are about to make the C8 feels and does everything way better. You will be in love with your new c8. My advice for you is to not compromise on anything that you want and enjoy your new car. Great time to buy and get a good deal. Are you trading in the c5 or keeping it?
Went from C5 convert to C7 GS to C8 . C8 is a refined sport car. C7 GS was more of a raw sport car . My C5 was awesome after I up graded everything from coil overs exhaust , brakes , wheels was my baby. PS I regret selling my C5 .
C5 (2000 vert) to C6 (2006 vert) to C8 (2020 coupe). Each upgrade satisfying. Loved the C5&6 and love the C8. All great road cars. The C8 is absolutely the best overall driving experience.
I have a C5 Z06 and a C8 HTC. I like them both for their unique characteristics. The Z is raw, a manual transmission, and a timeless design and the C8 is edgy and insanely capable. I wasn't sure about getting a convertible but prefer the looks of the HTC vs the coupe. Turns out I actually drive with the top down more than I thought I would. Go sit in a HTC and coupe to see which one you like.
The C5 feels like many other 90's era sports cars. The C8 feels every bit like a 2020's exotic. C5 is a far simpler car to work on. C8 is a far better performing car. IMHO the question comes down to how you intend to use the C8, how you have used the C5 (and/or will continue to use the C5) and what mods do you intend for either/both? If you are planning to trade the C5 towards the C8, and plan to keep it stock and enjoy it for what it is--then do it. No questions.
If you have considerable mods to the C5 and use it for track duties and/or occasional use, it might be best to try keeping it in addition to the C8; use the C8 for less hard-core driving and more recreational things.
If you are looking for a car that will do everything outside of dedicated track duties--about as well as any car ever made could possibly do on the street--than get an E-Ray HTC and don't second guess it. My motorcycle is getting to play second fiddle to my E-Ray. It is that damn good.
To me pretty natraul progression, but I have had many C5z, and many C6 and C6Z, and C7 and C7zs haha and now a C8, and probabyl a C8Z next.
Other then lack of manual, I dont have any complaints. and even at that, its just the way the car industry is and I fianlly gave up my C7Z for a C8 becasue anything else I buy was going to be a DCT anyway.... so playing with one and its not bad,
i miss my C5 "HOOSIER HYSTERIA" and would love to get her back in the stable and my C6 Supercharged Grand Sport but C8 is what I would drive every day no comparision to the previous cars.

Still have my 2002 C5 I bought new and 2023 C8 bought new. I truly enjoy driving each car based on their own driving features and rides. Performance is night and day.
If this is going to be a track car the ZO6 folks seem mighty happy with their cars, very edgy and great sound.
The hidden gem is the Eray, it’s the one you want if you are into road trips and beautiful drives. Wide body, carbon brakes, great handling, all weather capability and awesome hole shots! Better to 60 mph and through the 1/4 mile than the ZO6 though the ZO6 really comes on above 100 mph.
So the only other question is, what is your intended use for the C8. Because yes, I consider the ER to be the perfect all-around sports car. But that is not necessarily what is right for everyone.
