Yes, the author of that thread had a lifter failure at 87K miles. And it is in a bank with AFM. He is blaming it on AFM but hasn't returned posting final results of what portion of the lifter failed.
Lifters fail, it has been happening since engines started using lifters. AFM lifters have all the same components as non-AFM lifters but have the additional AFM mechanism. The standard lifter components can fail whether or not it is an AFM lifter. The poster needs to post the details of the failure to determine whether or not the failure was related to AFM.
