Default 2026 C8 USB Problems

Bought a Blade Silver 2026 Corvette twelve days ago . Put a 128 GB formatted NTFS and transferred cd's to the flash drive . When USB is placed in the console , the screen states it's indexing but the instrument panel states "no information available " . Have tried many usb formats . Call dealer and I have an appointment in 14 days . Would like to solve it as soon as I can .

What format are the CD’s saved as, maybe it’s not supported?

I ripped the CD's on the USB . Is there anything else I should do ? It was no problem with 2019 Vette but the 2026 one shure doesn't like it --

Try formatting with FAT32 or FATEX

Example:

You have tried reformatting your USB stick to NTFS many times, or you have tried other file structures like exFAT, which is what you should be using? Some hardware is picky about media formatting. exFAT has been around since 06. You're likely to have better compatibility with exFAT than NTFS.

You ripped them to what file type? .mp3 (what bitrate if that's the case), .ogg, .wav, something else? Again, the Infotainment system will not recognize every file type known to man.

I'm betting if you reformat your USB stick to exFAT and then copy .mp3 files onto the stick it will probably work.
Could also be a fake USB drive if it's a new one you bought from a large online seller. If it won't play the files on any device suspect the media. If it won't play on only one device suspect the device.

After you insert the flash drive you have to wait for the car to index all the files. It takes quite some time. Be patient. Select the song after it indexes and it shows all the info. It always shows 'no info available' at the bottom.

Just got a new memory stik. The Samsung 256gb has write speeds of 400mbs. The drive comes formatted exFAT. I dumped all my music, and all FLAC files. And didn't expect it to play. We'll, but I as inserted the stick it was indexed immediately and music started playing. I mean immediately. My last drive took 5 minutes to index and the music was always skipping and stopping.
Also, all songs show album art. And maybe it's just me but the art quality looks stellar

On a 2026 ERAY I played FLAC files all day. They sounded awesome.

Page 21 got me through USB set up for my 2025. I did not get an infotainment system manual with my C8 but the information here seemed correct for it.

Default USB Music

A lot of misinformation here

You cannot format a USB "memory stick" drive in Windows that is over 32gb to FAT32 (without using the command line DOS prompt command line in Windows and waiting forever and its waaay more complicated)
You CAN format a USB that is larger than 32GB with a freeware software called RUFUS - It will allow you to format a USB that is larger than 32GB like a 64GB drive or 128gb drive to FAT32

RUFUS PARAMETERS:

BOOT SELECTION - NON BOOTABLE
Partition Scheme - MBR (master boot record)
File System - Large FAT(32)

I have formatted my USB as a NTFS File system and the C8 will read that also (up to 64gb is all I have tested)

Other File System formats are at your own risk and may cause you problems.

NOTE: USB sticks out of package have varied formatted file systems and that is why the shotgun approach to "use another brand" sometimes works, and cost you $s but ALL can be re-formatted to FAT32 or NTFS but not always within WINDOWS

I have had varied results using anything larger than a 128GB USB in my 2025 E-ray - sometimes the audio reader will not read the entire USB.

As mentioned above in another posting, you must have your audio files in a specific format - I only use .MP3 files - the most widely used format on the planet. You can easily convert all your non .MP3 files into .MP3 format if your format is not supported through freeware

*As a sidenote - concerning your EXIF tag ALBUM ARTIST - if that EXIF tag is not unique for every song within an album, you will get a haywire of results on your screen for album art. I use TAGSCANNER freeware and force the track # into the ALBUM ARTIST EXIF tag making each song within a folder or Album unique for ALBUM ARTIST tag.

Lots of good info in that last post. Just a for what it is worth for others, before investing a lot of time and effort into a compressed format like mp3 it is good to listen to a few songs in a high definition format & then compare the sound of mp3 and see what you are going to be happy with. Many are happy with mp3, some are not.

I chased the issue for 6 months on my new 2020 C8 of my >1500 songs not loading at 1st 1/2 the time and after trying a solution developed by a member 1/3 the time! Would get the message below BUT no USB songs loading. Turned out other GM Cars/Trucks with the same infotainment system got the same message AND USD flashdrive songs only loading ~1/3 the time. Member who improved his 100% and mine to ~25% the time. The USB was loading at the same time on start as other systems on the same Buss. He reduced the file size of each song. I did as well using Audacity. Helped BUT did not go away. Tried the many member suggestions re file type etc. No help.

Went to the dealer and great tech reloaded the Infotainment software. NO help. He then read a note placed in the GM Service Info re the issue that said "IF A SANDISK flashdrive could be the issue." When I asked why, tech said we often post something we found WITHOUT a reason as it is just what we observed.

Bought a new NOT market leader brand and solved the issue 100%. Working fine on my 2024 E-Ray as well.

Investigated and found >50% of the SD Cards, Flash Drives etc sold on Amazon are BOOTLEG! My Industrial experience was "copiers" are smart they copy the Market Leader. In fact our Patented Heliarc Brand TIG Torches when out 1950 thru 1970s patents were up all copiers and even competitors copied our genuine Heliarc TIG Torches and consumables like collets, collet bodies (that hold the Tungsten Electrodes,) Gas Lens, etc. In that case they did not use our Trademarked Heliarc name as our Lawyers soon stopped any who tried. BUT they used our same somewhat unusual part numbers. Today most TIG Torch products come from China and use our old 1950s alfa numeric part number as essentially the model number!

So I bought this quality but off brand name Flashdrive. Same high specs. It solved the 6 month old issue. Worth a try. Also buy from a more reliable source.

I agree on the FLAC format. I listened to a song on my 26 back to back using a MP3 version and then a FLAC version and wow, what a difference! FLAC was so much better. So I signed up with Amazon HD and am rerecording my entire library to FLAC.

WTF? The 2026 manual says there is a USB port in the grab handle. I find no such thing...

Thanks, that was dam hard to find, I had even sat in the passenger seat and still couldn't see it. Obviously not a good outlet for a thumb drive, but might be handy to direct-connect my phone in the induction charger.

The owner's manual could use a few images for some of the more obscure locations of things. This isn't the first time I read about something and had a heck of a time finding it.
