If I order a C8 with a special lugnut set and a set of wheel locks. Will I get the 4 extra lug nuts with the car in case I decide to not use the wheel locks? I think these are dealer install items?
I wouldn't waste time with lug nut locks. It's easy to lose the key or be without it when its needed.
Then, anyone (and the thieves) can buy a universal lug key set on Amazon and other places. So, if the thieves are running around with a key set, they're going to get your wheels; and, if you lose your key, you won't get your wheels off. Of course maybe the thieves can help you if you're stuck somewhere without your key...just ask them for help.
Yes, on all my vehicles, I ask for 4 regular lug nuts. I don't like the locking lug-nuts.
No problem for my last 2 corvettes and for my last 2 honda's.
The Corvette Salesman said they have a bucket of the regular lug-nuts. They don't automatically put them into the car.
I personally HATE locking nuts, its asking for a problem and they stop nothing. and I am not really worried about someone stealing my wheels. Life goes on and it's not a Lambo, its just a chevy. I also dont live in Chicago.
But the answer is no if you buy a set of locking ones, you will be missing 4 normal ones.
The McGard wheel locks are dealer install at the pre-deivery stage. Along with the Z51 stuff if you got it. So the four lug nuts taken off will be in the dealer's custody. You job will be rescuing them. Be insistent.
Having said that, the only thief that these locks keep out are the ones who are too dumb to watch a You Tube video on how to defeat them. Probable a couple of hundred give or take. Save you money. No one is going to steal your wheels. They only fit one car and what C8 doesn't have a full set of OEM wheels already?
You cant barley give away set of stock wheels or the factory C8 muffler ha. no one taking them. I have a set of Blakc Z51 wheels in boxes for no reason ha.
also you can buy a wheel lot key set to go with you r impact and bam nothing is locked anyway,
I just went through this almost a nightmare but the day was saved. I bought a 24 ZO6. with 700 miles on it. I have had the car six months. One day I was cleaning the wheels I noticed on of the lugs was was a touch larger than the rest. It turns out these are Thatchman wheel locks. Sold by GM. You guessed it no wheel lock key to be found. I got a lead on a vendor in Miami who sells wheel lock keys for Thatchman locks. He says send me a picture of the wheel lock and I will match it up and he did. So I am on the hunt for four lug nuts Or I will buy a complete set to match. . These wheel locks are coming off. Lesson learned.
The one time I had dealer installed locks, I demanded the nuts, too. They put overpriced locks on all their vehicles and tossed the nuts. When I pushed it they went and "found" a can with perhaps 50 or 60 nuts of varies colors, etc. and gave me the whole works!
