Default Front engine C8 from AI

I asked AI to transform my engine bay just to see what it would do and to my surprise it ended making a front engine C8 !

AI is bad. Really really bad. Scary bad. There are unedited answers to the questions below. Yeah sometimes it gets it right, but its totally inconsistent. What is scary is that folks are using it for important decisions. My experience is it is almost always wrong. It does give the references - and in most cases what AI say is not in the reference, or some concocted nonsense answer cobbled together from phrase in the reference.

Q where is the engine in 2024 corvertte?
AI: " This engine is located at the core of the vehicle, contributing to its performance and handling capabilities. "

Q: where is the engine bay in a 2021 corvette?
"The engine bay in a 2021 Corvette is located under a cover that is not easily accessible. To access it, you may need to remove the cover, which is secured by screws. The engine is positioned in the front of the car, and the cover is hidden from view under a screwed-in hatch. For detailed instructions on how to open the engine bay, you can refer to the owner's manual or specific guides available online. "

Q : where is the engine bay in a 2026 corvette?
AI: "The engine bay in the 2026 Corvette is located in the rear of the vehicle, similar to previous models. The exact location is not specified in the sources, but it is typically found in the rear compartment where the engine is housed."

Q: where is the transmission in 2024 corvette
AI; "The transmission in the 2024 Corvette features a Borg Warner T 10 4-speed as the standard transmission, along with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) manufactured by TREMEC. This combination provides a balance of performance and efficiency for the vehicle."

OMG- ya can't make this stuff up! Doctors are using this to diagnose you. And law enforcement is using this to identify potential law breakers.

@Andybump Which AI did you use. I used Google's search AI and here is the answers:

Q:where is the engine in 2024 corvette?
AI: The 2024 Corvette (C8 generation) has a mid-engine layout, meaning the powerful 6.2L V8 engine is located behind the driver, nestled in the middle of the car, a significant shift from older Corvettes' front-engine designs, enhancing performance and handling.

Q: where is the engine bay in a 2021 corvette?
AI: In a 2021 Corvette (C8 generation), the engine is mid-mounted, meaning it's located behind the driver but in front of the rear axle, not under a traditional front hood; the engine bay cover is accessed from the rear of the car, often via the key fob (lock then roof open button) or interior controls, revealing the engine beneath.

Q. where is the engine bay in a 2026 corvette?
AI: In a 2026 Corvette (C8 generation), the engine bay is located in the rear of the car, behind the driver, making it a mid-engine design for the first time in Corvette history, unlike older front-engine models. You access it by raising the rear hatch or, for convertibles, by operating the roof controls to reveal it, though a special engine appearance package might be needed for visibility in convertibles.

Q: where is the transmission in 2024 corvette
AI: In the mid-engine 2024 Corvette (C8), the transmission is part of a rear-mounted transaxle, combining the 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox with the differential at the back of the car for better weight distribution, a significant shift from older front-engine Corvettes.

Not perfect, but far better than whatever you used.

I use bing as the search engine. I'm quoting the answers that pop up at the top when I enter the questions. I guess its coming from a bing hosted AI but I do not know.

Just for kicks, I tried the last question using Duck Duck Go's browser AI Search Assist:

Q: where is the transmission in 2024 corvette?
AI: The transmission in the 2024 Corvette is located at the rear of the vehicle, as it features a mid-engine layout. This design helps improve weight distribution and handling performance.

So, at least for C8 Corvette related questions, Bing's Copilot AI truly sucks. Even Duck duck go did better.

This confirms my choice to avoid Copilot entirely.

Ok, ok. Some AIs are better than others. My point, really, is that one should not accept AI answers as true, without verification. I think the one should look at the reference material that was used and confirm that it is credible and supports the answer given.

I find the Bing search engine to be fine. Is there a way to select where the AI answers come from? I have been using Bing search on the Firefox browser for years and the AI only recently (past year maybe?) appeared. I took no action to cause it to appear, and because I want to do my own research, I never bothered to investigate it or change it, because I really did not care about. I just ignore the answers except for it comedic value.

I got more interested very recently when folks started to post AI answers and they are often incorrect. I don't know where those are coming from.

No. Bing uses Microsoft's Copilot and it can't be changed. Unfortunately, Copilot favors social media posts (which IMO are generally terrible). In fact, if you ask it your 2026 leaf spring question, it now highlights your thread as support for it's flawed answer.

So, what is it you use then? I see above you said you avoid Copilot altogether? Is Copilot a name of Microsoft feature or a generic term synonymous with AI. What search engine do you use, and do you use an AI at all or disable it? Do some search engines allow a choice of AIs?

I'm getting a little AI chatbot symbol now popping up on my excel spreadsheets that I did not ask for either. It seems to be pervasive.

Copilot is Microsoft's AI. Yes, Microsoft is embedding Copilot in everything they make.

I use Google search a lot (in Chrome browser) even though I dislike Google's business model (selling my data). Their AI is Gemini. If you want to avoid Google, give Duckduckgo a try. They prioritize privacy and their AI is better than Copilot (but I'm not sure what they actually use).

You can disable Copilot in Edge:
To disable Copilot in Edge, go to Settings > Sidebar and turn off the "Show Copilot" toggle, or go to Settings > Appearance > Copilot and Sidebar and disable the button there. You can also disable specific AI features by going to edge://settings/ai and turning off "Copilot mode," then restart the browser for the changes to take full effect.
You can disable Gemini in Chrome:
To disable Gemini in Chrome, go to chrome://settings/ai (or Settings > AI Innovations) to turn off the button and its features like "Help me write" and "History search," and for more advanced control, disable the "AI mode Omnibox entrypoint" in chrome://flags, or use an extension like "Hide Gemini and Google AI". You'll likely need to do a combination of these steps for a complete removal, especially if the button reappears.
Edit: Duckduckgo uses OpenAI (GPT-3.5 Turbo, Davinci) and Anthropic (Claude) to provide quick, summarized answers from sources like Wikipedia in search results. DuckDuckGo masks user IP addresses before sending requests to AI providers, so the models don't know who you are. Chats aren't saved on DuckDuckGo's servers and are deleted from provider servers, typically within 30 days.

I mostly use Free Google AI which does give references. I find for my field it often quotes my website!

You can pay $10.99/Mo for their AI Plus and $26.99/Mo for theri AI Pro. My buddy and Daughter pay for ChatGPT and quote many benefits. I have sent "stuff" to Daughter to ask and it does come back with detailed info.

But agree when you look at where Google gets info it includes literature, marketing info etc.
