No, it’s not near what the policy cost. It is about 25% of the policy which is in effect through June 2030. I don’t feel bad about protecting myself as I know more may/will happen in the next five years.

I have GMEPP (8yr/100K mile extended warranty) on 23 HTC Z51 - great deal bought from
Have 38K miles on car in October 2025 and HTC would not retract reliably.
Spent 5 weeks in shop diagnosing and replacing top motor etc.
The bill came to ~$1700 - all covered by GMEPP.
Still have 5 years/60K miles left on the warranty so buying the GMEPP working out well for me.
Bought it in 2022 from ToddSutherland <todds@thompsonauto.net>.
Local Chevrolet dealer actually only had 3rd party warranty offering, not GMEPP so I bought it online from Todd.
