I have a couple of questions on purchasing a used C8
2021 is what I am looking at...of course it is out of warranty...the 3yr 36000 miles anyway
I looked at the car fax and there is nothing on there about the 7500 DCT check
It now reads 16000 miles
I like the looks, I can save $30k over a new one...can I get an extended warranty even if the 7500 mile dct check doesn't show up..I won't buy one without having a warranty onboard..
What does it mean when an ad says "GM Certified"
Not all maintenance shows up or shows up correctly in carfax or even if you have your chevy dealer do a check. If you are getting it from a private party get records. You should have had a yearly engine oil and filter change, a DCT filter change at 7500 and a 3 year DCT drain and fill.
Be careful about getting a warranty. The 3rd party ones are a crapshoot and the GM PPP is good but requires that you have an inspection performed and that all maintenance has been done to date and will be done going forward.
My 2020 had 8800 on it when I bought it 2 years ago this month. The BTB was already expired and it looked like they could easily deny coverage on things because I also didn't have perfectly documented maintenance so I didn't buy it. The dealers near me wanted $300-400 to do the required inspection on top of the quoted policy cost. Edit- Todd wouldn't write a policy and Dennis would. It was $6200 for 60 month 60k miles $250 deductible policy.

Thanks for any help...
"GM Certified" likely means Certified Pre-Owned (CPO). CPO cars come with an extended warranty, I'd ask the dealer. And ask them when the filter was last changed (it should show up in their records or make sure they change it before they sell it to you). CPO certification requires maintenance to be up to date. Even if the DCT filter change was missed at 7,500 miles I can't see GM denying warranty coverage if GM certified it.

With the deals on new 25s there is no way I’d be buying used- especially with no warranty.
"GM Certified" suggests you are buying from a dealership. They will have all the records and if really is GM Certified they will ensure all maintenance has been done. Saving $30k goes a long way to paying for future minor repairs and my thinking is that anything major ie tranny etc would have happened in the first 3 years.
- contact Todd and Dennis and see about an extended warranty. The C8 has 5 Camers and 28 control boxes plus the DCT
-I would plan on changing radiator fluid, brake fluid (these 2 s/b around $600) DCT fluid ($1000) and DCT filter ($300). Then u are current on maint and know u are good.
Personally, I would not buy a used C8 that's has over 3 year/36K miles on it that doesn't have a GMPP "warranty" already on it. Sadly, that requires you to buy the C8 from an individual, not a dealership, due to GM's requirement on transferring the GMPP "warranty" to you. FWIW, you can still buy the GMPP warranty if it's over the previously stated requirements but It will be at a substantially higher cost though. If it's under the 3 year/36K miles you would be eligible to buy the "lower cost" GMPP. With all the used C8s on the market now I would probably walk away from your specified C8 and get a more "warranty friendly" car. JMO...
On Jan 2, I bought a used 2022 with 6700 miles on it. For a vehicle which is out of warranty, I found https://mychevroletprotection.com/ve...ice-protection to be the best place to get a GM Protection Plan. I opted for the Platinum plan, and it was about $1k cheaper to get it direct from them rather than through Dennis. Todd will not quote an out of warranty vehicle.
Buying it direct also did not require a vehicle inspection at a local dealer. I called and spoke to GMPP, and asked about this ... they said it was not required. I'm not sure if it is due to the 2022 I bought only having 6700 miles, or some other reason though. The GMPP does require a 30 day and 1k mile waiting period before a claim can be made.
Got to agree with some on this post with the markdowns on the 2025's I would not purchase used. New has a warranty. You will also get better financing terms. You will also know the history of this car because you will be the one making it. Search around on the internet start with the power dealers McMulkin, Les Stafford, Ciocca, Coughlin, and Criswell don't be afraiod to buy from out of town or state dealers. Shipping is easily arranged. I know I did it with my new cart.
To me CPO means absolutely nothing. Its just marketing term to give buyers a sense of peace of mind. All while allowing the selling dealer a fatter bottom line due to the price mark up. Because all those supposed inspections your hoping that the dealerships mechanic actually performed them. There are good dealers out there but there are more shady ones that will cut any corner they can.
It is scary how many people are saying incorrect information.
No, CPO does not mean that all scheduled maintenance items have been done.
Yes, dealers that have GM CPO vehicles do their 172 point inspections. Dealerships pay GM in order to list a vehicle as CPO, because GM pays for the warranty coverage that is included.
I was told all maintenance had to be up to date but the inspection sheet only says:
Maintenance
15. Engine oil changed and filter replaced (reset oil life monitor)*
16. Fill diesel exhaust fluid*
17. Tire rotation and balance
18. All fluids checked and topped off
What I quoted was a GM certification and PPP checklist. When I asked three local dealer about doing it all three knew the checklist and used it for certified used.

What do you mean by GM pays for the warranty coverage that is included....is this an additional warranty?
The C8 is not going to sell well when We get another 5-10 years down the road.
No aftermarket Warranty will want to touch these Cars when they are 10-15 years old.
