Default VIN decoding

My understanding is the the 10th digit represents the model year, for a 2026 would that be considered 2027 model year? In the example below the S=2026 model year according to VIN decoders…so would this be a VIN for a 2025 C8 or a 2026 C8?1G1YF2D34S5xxxxxx

An S in 10th place is a 2025 model.

A 2026 will have a T.....It reflects model year,,not calendar year.

They didn't use a few letters like O, Q,and I...

What has me confused is the explanation from Corvette Central, they are saying that a “T” is model year 2027. So GM producing MY2027….correct...

Corvette Central is WRONG. GM uses standardized VIN year codes across the product line:

But, but, but. There weren't any 1984 MY Vettes sold so why not skip the "E" designation?

The year designation applies to ALL GM vehicles, not just Corvettes. In fact, this year designation is used by all vehicles manufactured in North America since 1981.
