Default Quick one

So I am on the fence about doing Z51 or not. The feature I like most on Z51 is the eLSD. However, I don’t know what the non-Z51 diff will be. Does anyone have info on that? I have to assume it won’t be a 1 legger, so is it just a traditional mechanical limited slip? Or is the only real difference the gearing? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The non-Z51 has a mechanical limited slip differential. The Z51 has the eLSD. If you also have MSRC, you get Performance Traction Management (PTM). PTM requires both Z51 and MSRC. As you noted, gearing is also different.

.........................nonZ51.. Z51
.........................------..------
First gear............... 2.91 .. 2.91
Second gear.............. 1.76 .. 1.76
Third gear............... 1.22 .. 1.22
Fourth gear.............. 0.88 .. 0.88
Fifth gear............... 0.65 .. 0.65
Sixth gear............... 0.51 .. 0.51
Seventh gear............. 0.40 .. 0.40
Eighth gear.............. 0.33 .. 0.33
Transfer ratio........... 4.89 .. 5.17

Overall ratios:
.........................nonZ51.. Z51
.........................------..------
First gear...............14.23 ..15.04
Second gear.............. 8.61 .. 9.10
Third gear............... 5.97 .. 6.31
Fourth gear.............. 4.30 .. 4.55
Fifth gear............... 3.18 .. 3.36
Sixth gear............... 2.49 .. 2.64
Seventh gear............. 1.96 .. 2.07
Eighth gear.............. 1.61 .. 1.71

Z51 Z51 Performance Package, includes (J55) Z51 performance brakes, (FE3) Z51 performance suspension, (NPP) performance exhaust, (GM7) performance rear axle ratio, (G96) Electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD), (T0A) Z51 rear spoiler, front splitter, (QUD) 245/35ZR19 front and 305/30ZR20 rear, blackwall, high performance tires and (V08) heavy-duty cooling system

Good luck with the search function. I'm not sure if the question of "Is the Z51 worth it?" has ever been asked.

If you plan to keep the car a long time, doesn’t matter which one you buy as far as resale value. But, when I look at used C8 on Autotrader, I tend to look for at least the C8 with z51. I’m sure I’m not the only one that does this.

I would do the opposite unless the tires have already been changed to A.S. tires, brake pads replaced to reduce dust and had the not so attractive Z51 spoiler (IMO) changed or deleted.

I've seen dozens of "I would only buy the Corvette if it had Z-51" VS "the Z-51 is worthless if you don't track" arguments. I am in the have to have Z-51 and mag ride camp.

Thanks, the key is to force it to use the Courier New font which is uniform character width. Most other fonts are proportional, so each letter has a unique width. And you have to use the periods because multiple spaces are ignored.

Z51 package: different gearing, stiffer suspension, rear spoiler front splitter, few more settings in Track mode, performance exhaust, bigger breaks and rotors, softer tires and added radiator (cooling).
with the stiffer suspension I would suggest you get mag ride.

If pushing the car on a track z51 is a must have.
If not, you maybe wasting your money and have the chance of more issues.

some just want bragging rights and I can understand that.
Good luck

I got the Z51 due to the extra cooling and E rear. I also like the selectable handling. I do like the spoiler. Mine is a 23.

The only thing I would want from the Z51 package is the heavy duty cooling!
Edit to add, I have the performance exhaust on my non Z51 which would push me to buy the Z51 if it wasn't available separately.
