I'm the second owner of my Vette. I noticed the windows having a light tint. Of recent, I am seeing the the window tint is not because of the glass itself being tinted but a tint wrap that slightly peeling. So my questions:
Are the Vette windows by default plain glass without tint or are they tinted from the factory but with/without the wrap?
I would like darker tint but not wanting to go overboard where I am sitting in the car like Batman in total darkness. What should I ask for from my tinting shop? Also any brand recommendation?
While the car has a very slight tint from the factory, that tint is between the two sheets of glass, not on the inside of window like aftermarket tint is applied.
Anything that is OEM is embedded in the glass during manufacturing, just like any other car. So anything that is peeling is aftermarket. Just have it removed and replaced with what you like. I agree with above. Find out what is legal in your state and go for that. Couple brands to research are Luminar and Xpel. Luminar has been around long time. Xpel is new to the market.
Any film you see peeling on the edges of the glass would be aftermarket tint added by the previous owner. (and seemingly not a very good quality film and/or installer if it is peeling on a C8 already, IMO)
As for question #2, you probably wouldn't want to go any darker than 20%, and 30% (which is lighter than 20% in tint terminology) might be more palatable if darkness is a big concern. Personally, I have Xpel 20% sides and back and 50% on the windshield of my vehicles and I don't have any issues with darkness, even at night. Also, like others mentioned above, check or ask about the local tint laws, which your tint shop should know, if being strictly "by the book" is a concern for you.

I agree with what’s keeping us an aftermarket tint that was applied. Find out what your state laws are and go from there. Too dark of tint makes it hard to see at night and can be a problem for LEOs.
Did you find the tint on the windshield noticeably reduces heat inside? Any reduction of vision at night?
I also have 70% on the windshield. The ceramic film really cuts down on the heat and while there is a slight difference at night I find no interference with vision at night. Can’t even tell in daylight
