I've had my brand new 2026 C8 Stingray for two weeks now and I'm very please with it, it's a very special car. Driving and using it more and more I noticed that when I pop the frunk open, the hood is not totally free and it will rob/make a clicking noise when I pull the hood in the air. Hard to describe I guess but it's pretty obvious. I've search for videos on YouTube to see if other cars do this as weel and it's seems like most frunks are totally free once poped open.
You can hear it on this clip (not my car) at about 0:37 :
When I pop the Fronk from inside my C8 it only goes up to a catch so you don't have the lid pop all the way up while driving, It's a safety measure and several early C8's had crashed because they didn't have that catch.

Makes sense but what I don't get is that most (even recent) C8s don't do this. Just wondering...
they first rise up THEN unlatch so what you may be hearing is the electric operation.......be happy its working they can be temperamental ,mine has been behaving itself for a month now [25e]
Hello again Ottvette! I too now have had mine for a couple of weeks. My frunk lid releases and pops up a bit, but then there is a second release. Then I pull it up.

After I pop my frunk and lift the hood, it catches a little bit and there's a click sound when I continue to pull up. I also wondered if this was normal.

Yep it's a two step safety release THAT was there from Day 1 BUT was not a fool proof as today.
Talk about a forum, the sky is falling making a mountain out of a molehill!
The 2020 C8 always had a two step Frunk opening procedure BUT soon after the first C8s were out, a couple of folks had the Frunk hood fly up when moving! Don't recall any accident and one was going fast enough that hood had to be replaced. BUT no fun instantly not being able to see for blocked vision by hood! All kinds of forum generated theories as what was occurring: extraneous electromagnetic signals and it might happen at any speed etc.
Forum members were calling for a complete recall of all C8s and having a "reach in mechanical second level safety" as most front engine cars use (had on my 1st car a '41 Ford Coupe.) Even Porsche with a rear engine had a reach in, mechanical safety front hood 2nd latch.
But I had several Corvairs and NO mechanical reach in safety hood latch. Use your key and turned once and the 1st latch released. Had to return key to neutral and turn again to release the 2nd safety catch. Thought GM would investigate and have a solution. But months went by. Then GM announced, after investigating their Dash warning that the Frunk was open not latched was missed by the few driver's who had the issue. They had a software fix. BUT when my 2020 C8 was delivered in September 2020, very late in the MY 2020 build, it was not supposed to have the software fix. So I brought my Tether I planned to install at the dealer just in case. See Pic. Turned out the new software was installed and never had to use the Tether I bought with me for the ride home and a more permanent one after!
Before the GM software Fix many were C8 owners installing Tether's just in case. GM changed on the Frunk hood opening procedure. In case it was like a "Pocket Cell Phone Call" caused by inadvertent pressing the button on the FOB, they made it a two step push with one short and one long press. They improved the Dash Warning that Frunk was open. Also if the Warnings were missed and the car started it could travel no more than 17 mph. At that speed the Frunk hood would likely NOT go fully up due to front air pressure. AND when it would not go faster the driver would realize something was wrong and look at the dash!
My wife was almost stuck with it not closing after using it for food shopping ....it would pull down but then rise and pop up and not unlatch . Repeated pushing the buttons /opening / reclosing got her home she has started using again if she has to ,same with me i only use it if i have to .

FWIW, my 2020 C8 Z51 got the very early Frunk opening software. The key Fob push button sequence to open only worked ~10% of the time so I learned to ONLY use the car buttons. One under the left side grill and the one in the door. That is what I still do with the E-Ray now for 27 months. FOB stays in my pocket.
When opening, at times it does take 5 to 10 seconds for the 2nd latch to activate to open. Don't know what the timer is to have the automatic pull down still operate but appears to be less than 20/30 seconds. At which time I have to push hard on the Frunk lid to get it to latch manually.
Mine opens fine but when it’s been open a while (think battery tender cord) it won’t pull itself into the fully closed/locked position until you go through a couple ignition and crank up/shutdown cycles. I may try voodoo incantations next. But both of my ‘26s do this.
