I remember some one having that issue because of how they hard wired their radar detector in .
Yes that's most often reported when a radar detector was incorrectly wired into the rearview mirror. Don't know if that is OPs issue. The inside and outside rear view mirror dimming circuits are connected.
Has been working fine for months. Last night was first time I had driven the car at night.
Good news is the replacement part is pretty cheap. I won't be using the Blendmount tap again.
Thanks for the replies.
Hate to say it, but it's not the tap, it's how you wired it. You wired it wrong. You wired the black connector incorrectly, in the gray wire connection rather than the black connection.
Unfortunately, they are adjacent to each other and can easily be connected wrong. If it's any consolation, others have made the same mistake. I've wired six (6) C8's and will tell you, that I've never had this issue, since I was aware of it ahead of time. It's very easy to mis-connect the wires since it is a very tight space/connection. Sorry, it happened to you.

I'm aware it was my mistake. I wasn't implying anything different.
Good news is the glass replacement is only $130 and takes about 10 minutes to pop off and replace, so not a horrible mistake.
I do think Blendmount (and others if they use the same style tap) should be more clear about what can happen.
Tight space and extremely hard to get a good view while inserting the tap...
Question, does the issue happen over time or does it happen right away?
This is supposition on my part...it worked fine for two months. But last night was the first time since install that I had driven at night. So something in the auto-dimming system is what I accidentally connected to. Didn't trigger until a night drive.
Interesting…I was trying to figure out how this could afect the mirror and came up with this
Red to chassis ground: approximately +12V to +14V
White to chassis ground: approximately 0V
Red to white: approximately +12V to +14V
The white wire does not normally carry a positive voltage; it serves as the return path to ground. However, if the white wire is disconnected or has a poor ground connection, you may measure a small "ghost" or induced voltage on it due to the detector's internal circuitry.
So it must be that additional voltage that wacks the mirror..
