I don't like to share my own YouTube videos on here but I figured I'd share this one because I have a feeling a lot of people will be doing some kind of cat delete or sport cat substitution, and I know that there is absolutely no tutorials online for it... So I figured I'd share this in hopes that it helps some of you DIY guys out!
I paired up with Fabspeed and did their cat bypass pipes because I wanted the car to be loud... They have a bunch of different options and this video will obviously work for any type of cat install / removal.
I want to be transparent - this video is essentially a before sound test (with DBs) and an install video. I'm going to be filming the after shots later today and will upload a separate video for that. If you guys are interested, let me know and I can post that one as well!
Typically removing catalytic should 80% of the time or more get a check engine light. On certain cars it’s odd like GT3 s and others you don’t get a light ......other times a dummy light. Car runs great like a mclaren but light is on. Some people can ignore it while others go mad and worry.
catbypass pipes are for 100% racing competition and off road use closed course only and not for USA public roads.
many years ago I designed mini- catalytic converters that are 400 cell and can be a good solution for running catbypass pipes or sport cats on cars that might get a p420/p430 code.
visualize 90 degree and 45 degree mini 2” long small catalytic converters in small pioes you screw into the 2ndary oxygen sensor port. With a jam nut you tighten them then install the factory 2ndary o2 sensor and tighten. Often does the trick because there is a seriously long cat installed. This is not a o2 fouler. Called an oxygen sensor spacer with catalytic converter
No cel because of the micro "fake" cats I showed in the video!
How many miles have you put on it? That's great that the "fakes" work so far. Around here you'd have to swap the stock ones back for every state inspection and any driveline related warranty issue.
The stock OEM Corvette C8 catalytic converters weigh 26.35 pounds 12 kg
there are left and right side catalytic converters ceramic based matrixs and bolt-on heat shields.
The rear C8 stock OEM muffler weighs 76 pounds and 34.5 kg This is the complete system with 4 square welded tips. Its intersteing that GM did not have slide on / bolt-on tips like other mid-engine companies.
Hope everyone had a great weekend and is safe and happy.
What size is the inlet & outlet pipe. 3 inch?
I own a car shop, and fabricate a lot of exhaust systems. I want to make my own converters. And order them now. Get a head start.
I'm still waiting for my car. Supposed to come off the line today.

I have over 100 miles now without a CEL. Now I must say I've been using 94 octane fuel, don't think that this has a difference but I have seen a few people with the same setup say they had a CEL but they only had 91 octane available to them

If you want I can go and measure my stock cats? Is that what you need?
Im talking to corsa about their exhaust options and told them I planned on removing the cats. They said if I remove the cats I would need a tune. Is this true?
