Default Engine cover question

I ordered a carbon fiber replacement that does not include the sound deadening pad on the underside. GM does not sell the pad separately. Is the pad necessary or needed? My experience with this type of material is that it soon turns to dust because of the heat and makes a mess in the engine compartment. Any thoughts?

Needed? No. It won't do much more than act as a little bit of sound deadening to quite down some mechanical engine noises.

I easily removed the sound material and added to my CF cover.

Thank you both for the replies. I had assumed (yeah, I know) that the current pad would be glued to the engine cover and would be destroyed if I tried to remove it. Apparently that is not the case. Thanks again.
