Has anyone run track days with a C8 without TPMS? I'm in a position where I'd like to run tomorrow but I don't have the sensors for the new wheels and tires yet. Any issues with doing this? Thanks!
There will be no issues. Can’t read what’s not there. Just show all zeros. Just monitor your pressure the true way. Get a cold measurement before going out and a hot after coming off based on the recommendations of the C8 track prep guide.
I live 25 minutes from the track mostly by freeway. On track night each group, novice intermediate and advanced, get 3 twenty minute sessions. I use about 3/4 tank of fuel because I average 5.5 to 6 mpg.
If you have an extra set of wheels and tires for track night, it's nice to have them set up with their own TPMS. It makes it very easy to see how high the pressure gets so you know if you want to adjust it. If you don't care about the continuous tire pressure read out, it will not cause any problems with all of the computer electronics in your car. Have fun!

Well I can confirm no ill action happened on track without TPMS in place.
However, I think it reduce your grip and computer restrict a few things...
I think TPMS use also temp in tires to tell eLSD how to engage, and maybe suspension, etc.
in race/race I could go a lot quicker om same track with TPMS installed....
Personally I would not run TPMS on a track car if you have two sets of wheels.... generally you are checking pressures after every run....
At WGI last month the guy next to me with a 2017 GS kept getting false TPMS readings, and his car would go into limp mode on the track... it took him all morning to get it straightened out... very frustrating.... just another thing to cause problems...

Well that might be correct on a 2017 Gs, I don't know.. But the C8 use both temp and pressure in tire to control electronic diff. and maybe other parameters
I did two track days back to back and last day with TPMS it felt "easier" to control.. I go race/race so there is not supposed to be any nannies...
Traction out of a turn was better with TPMS.. maybe to do with some table to give less when tires are cold ?
You got data to support this? Or seat of the pants?
within a sec.
Could be seat of pants.
NOT same day, but similar conditions..
It just seems to hook up better out of turns....
I recall someone saying that temp and pressure is used to control eDIFF.. and that makes sense from an engineering standpoint... warm sticky tires can handle more lockup...
The c7 was the same way either all 4 tpms or none. The computer does not use tpms to control wheel spin, or slip angle. It uses yaw sensors for that. I have had tpms ruin a weekend of track time. 1 went out and the car went to limp home. Since then i don’t run tpms in track wheels, track time way to expensive to leave in the hand of tpms.
I ran without them in the rear a couple track days but yesterday I ran into major problems. If the light comes on "service tire sensor monitor system" you're screwed. I could shutoff traction control but not ESC!! I'm running slicks and it would barely go around the track. Every corner it would brake all the way through. Went home swapped a pair with sensors back on the rear and was able shut everything off. Luckily I live close to the track I was at.
You have to run all 4 sensors, or 0. The car will think you have flats on the non sensor wheels and the computer will attempt to compensate.
c5racr1 is correct. The thought process by the GM engineers is that if the systems reads zero sensors present, the assumption is that the deletion of sensors is intentional.

I recall this during the C7 presentation. There is no reason to read tire temperature unless you are using it to control traction control systems, including PTM.
What happens if you have 2 complete sets of 4... all with TPMS... will the car only be programmed to the original set?? or will it adapt to the TPMS in the second set of 4?
